Sibelius: Night Ride and Sunrise

One of my favorite tone-poems, from the first I heard the Segerstam/Helsinki recording!

Corey, it's just his way of saying he's really into this composer right now.  Similar to when he was on his Stockhausen binge.

Yes, but the Stockhausen pieces were of considerable length; the Webern pieces are almost always less than 10 minutes long.

Kullervo

You just don't have the stamina, Karl. ;D

karlhenning

I've probably got the stamina; but not the will  ;D

What's even funnier (I find it funny) is that the same cover shot (including the ones Mr. Henning posted a few minutes ago) have been viewed multiple times. (Or maybe the respective poster just wanted to click on the image every time he visited this thread. :P)

Oh, and to contribute to this thread:

Gubaidulina: Concerto for Bassoon and Low Strings (Michael Matushek, bassoon - recorded October 12, 2008 at Oberlin College, and on YouTube here, the first of four parts.)

Is YouTube just great for classical music, or what?  There was a great back page in a recent Opera News by a writer who logged on YouTube at midnight and started exploring videos of vocalists, and before he knew it, it was six in the morning.

Joyous, uplifting music as an antidote to Luke's departure from this board.
Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything. -- Plato

Tubin, Symphony No. 1 in C minor (Järvi/BIS)

A very strong work, one of Tubin's best, I think.

Waiting for the Järvi set to drop in price, Johan — or if, failing that, someone else recording the cycle. :D
