Of course.
Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything. -- Plato

From the now well know big box from our famous Flying Dutchman, this in the 1970 recorded disc, containing fine works from Marais, D'Anglebert & Forqueray is a top recommendation any time, for its intrinsic value is clear when the first note sets in, and settles comfortably in you ears. The extra ordinary recording is a tribute to the engineer. Wow is in order!

Kullervo

Morning! More impeccable music 8):

Walton - Symphony No. 1 (Ashkenazy/Royal Phil), Violin Concerto (Previn/LSO/K.W. Chung)
Nielsen - Symphony No. 3 "Sinfonia Espansiva", Symphony No. 6 "Sinfonia Semplice" (Kuchar/Janáček Phil)

Vagn Holmboe, Symphony No. 6 (Owain Arwel Hughes/BIS)

At last, at last... After reading about Holmboe many many years ago in Paul Rapoport's study Opus est, and after being alerted to this composer again by Christo, in 1995, who had even visited the composer in his native Denmark, this symphony spoke to me from the moment go. I always found Holmboe a bit too spare and bare, but this work is marvellous. Holmboe, as strange as it may sound, sounds like Stravinsky AND Shostakovich, Nielsen AND Sibelius combined! A quite extraordinary feat, but I can hear all four of them seamlessly integrated. This is, indeed, a major symphonist. I think I have cracked the Holmboe code. After 28 years.

... music is not only an 'entertainment', nor a mere luxury, but a necessity of the spiritual if not of the physical life, an opening of those magic casements through which we can catch a glimpse of that country where ultimate reality will be found.    RVW, 1948

I love the big box, but apart from me and my friend Que, nobody seems to be interested. Well greatness alludes even the brightest of minds, obviously! :o ;D
This disc then from Leonhardt's with works from J.S Bach & CPE Bach, respectively the Concerto No. 1 BWV 1052, & Concerto WQ 23, played by the Leonhardt Consort although it is not on the cover who the members are, Hmmmmmm, a omission......
The performances are low key, and far from spectacular, but have a dignity and added lucidity that makes for quite pleasant listening, especially the harpsichord part from the master is amazingly beautiful.

I guess it's because the excellence of Gustav Leonhardt in all his musical endeavours is an established fact.   :)

Or, perhaps, they just don't post often.

There's an even bigger omission. (At least, it was made with my copy.) Hint: It's (not) in the backside of the box.  :D

Holy c..p, how am i supposed to post if I'm busy listening to big boxes?

Harry

Big boxes take up a enormous amount of time, but with this one, that's okay.

CD XII with  the following works.
Bunte Blatter opus 99.
Vier Fugen, opus 72.
Vier Marsche opus 76.

Schumann at his best, shines under the nimble hands of Jorg Demus.

Hmmmm, that alluded me! ;D

"eluded" = escaped, as in 'escaped my notice"

"alluded" is from "allusion"= a reference, as in 'the post on Bach made a passing allusion to Handel also"

Just trying to be helpful :) I hope that you don't mind! Absolutely no offence intended, Harry :)

I can not wait to receive mine.  I ordered that set a few days ago. It is on its way from Germany! I love solo piano work.  I used to play the piano (I wasn't very good mind you  :() but my love for that instrument has remained with me throughout all these years  :D!
