Handel - [some] Chandos Anthems (Christophers, Sixteen)

I have the complete set of Chandos Anthems by Christophers.  I am curious as to how the set compared with the set released by Hyperion, which is a more recent recording ...

Now playing CD1 from this set, which arrived from Amazon today.  This is my first recording by Garrick Ohlsson ...

I think Garrick Ohlsson did an excellent job with Nocturnes No. 1.  EMI also did a good remastering job on this CD-set, at least for CD1, which I am still listening to ...

Me too, mine are the earlier Chandos label recordings as well. But I'm not a huge enough fan of the works to need a second version at the moment - this one is quite satisfying.

I am with you there.  I should be set with that 4-CD set for the immediate future ...

A download-only release (it may be issued on CD in 2010).

Just to borrow a larger picture somewhere; my copy isn't distributed by Collegium...
HIP for all and all for HIP! Harpsichord for Bach, fortepiano for Beethoven and pianoforte for Brahms!

Not actually listening to it at the moment, but I can't get "Dan's Theme" from House of Frankenstein out of my head. Damn, that's good music!

The Mahler Resurrection Symphony, featuring Maria Cebotari, Rosette Anday, and the Vienna Philharmonic being led by Bruno Walter. What whole-encompassing music! My orchestra played it almost a month and a half ago, and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since!

Listening to a disc from the 3-CD set above, with music for the vihuela (Spanish "lute"), played by José Miguel Moreno.

"Spanish lute" is correct, despite its guitar-like appearance.

BTW José Miguel Moreno is a superb player - goes on my top-lutenists list.  :)

To my ears he plays with more sensuality than Hopkinson Smith in the same repertoire,
but either makes a superb representation of this music.

BTW, new Francesco da Milano recording from HS.
