While starting a new thread on the guy, I've been listening to lots of Wojciech Kilar today:

Riff 62 (Silesian Philharmonic/Stryja)
Siwa Mgła (Bachleda, WOSPR/Kaspszyk)
Krzesany (NOSPR/Kord)
Génerique (WOSPR/Graca)
Orawa (WOSPR/Wit, then AUKSO/Moś [Marek Mos], then Amadeus/Duczmal)

D Minor, I've enjoyed chatting about Zimeran with you since my very first posts on the old GMG. :D Mysteriously, we seem to always agree. ;)

I see no mystery in that.

Oh! -- was that unagreeable of me?  :-\

[where's the "angel with halo" emoticon?  :'(]

After a long and torrid affair with the "cop" emoticon, they decided to elope.

I knew I waited too long to pop the question.  :-[

Is that the Russian Revelation issue?

Louis (Ludwig) Spohr  (1784-1859) package arrived yesterday, including the CD-sets below:

Wind & Piano Quintets, Wind Septet, & String Sextet - a 2-CD set on the excellent MDG label.

Complete Piano Trios (5) - 3 CD set on the CPO label w/ Beethoven Trio Ravensburg.

The Wind, String & Piano works on the 2-CD set are just excellent; just started to listen to the Piano Trios in the office - don't know much about this group performing; also received the Complete Violin Concertos set on CPO, and several Clarinet Concertos on Hyperion - will have to wait until tonight or tomorrow -  :D

Tonight, the new music group ModernWorks in the following program:

John Cage: Music for Four; The Wonderful Widow of Eighteen Springs
Earle Brown: Special Events for cello and piano
Riccardo Piacentini: The Brown Cage-a tribute to John Cage and Earle Brown (world premiere)
Ada Gentile: Perviolocellosolo; A Day in the Life of Betty Boop
Salvatore Sciarrino: Ai limiti della notte; Appendice alla perfezione

Excellent program by ModernWorks last night, especially the Sciarrino finale.  They played the two pieces back-to-back, as if they were two parts of a single work.  The first is for cello solo, the second is for a set of tuned bells, and they sounded quite magical together.

Just finished listening to this:

This opera is way too long. I am usually pretty patient but the entire second act of this opera serves no purpose - a bunch of cardinals and clergymen arguing doesn't make for great drama. There is some great music from Pfitzner but the libretto is ponderous, full of un-interesting monologues.

I get the feeling this extravagantly casted recording is DG's version of Decca's Frau Ohne Schatten with Solti/VPO. In any case they picked the wrong opera.
