Harry

Already the third volume in this series, and a discovery every time. what amazing musical skills this composer has, and a knack for melodious tunes that grip you right away.
Its thoroughly in the romantic tradition, and has by hearing it, the right of a foothold amongst his peers.

HAYDN:       String Quartets opus 9/6, 50/6 & 74/1          / Schuppanzigh Quartet

A nice CD with dynamic and elegant interpretations. But there are better versions of the opus 74/1.

Fuga in c 575, Allabreve 589 Praeludiuae 568, 569

That set is wonderful, and the Allabreve is one of my favorite organ pieces by Bach.

Why would I do that? It would be so un-HIP to play it on a an fp, when The Man himself prescribed an hk. :D

My least favorite Bach by Gould, by a mile. Yeesh.

But I'm enjoying his Berg op.1, right now.

p.s. to me it sounds like Gould doesn't give a tosh about the Toccatas. Plays it like some of his worst Mozart. Minus the "at least being interesting" bit.  ;)

I have mixed feelings about Gould's Toccatas, but I do love how he plays the adagios of each piece.

You're way off. All I can tell you is adjust your ears and listen to them again carefully, he plays wonderfully.

There you go, Jens; if only you weren't handicapped by your bad ears . . . .
