J.S. Bach - English Suites BWV 806-811
Christiane Jaccottet (harpsichord)
2 CDs [vols. 15 & 16 on the 40-CD Amado set, CD15 68:27, CD16 70:22]

Last night the first disc, early this morning the second one.

I have several versions of these works (Curtis, van Asperen on Brilliant, Watchorn, Leonhardt 1 & 2, Cerasi, Gould), but Jaccottets is one of the best... Her style is so natural (= fresh, apparently effortless) and flowing that it is immediately captivating and the recorded sound is a pleasure for the ear. Thanks again, dear Premont.

As the Amado set doesn't provide any information about the recordings included, I don't know if  these discs belong to the first or the second Jaccottet's version for these works. Apparently, she recorded them for the first time on March, 1982 (Saphir?) and then in 1990 (Digital Concerto). Any idea about this?

Quick question Harry.  Did you have much of this material already on the shelf on single discs?

Yes quite a few of them Bill

Bach, JS - Viola da Gamba Sonatas w/ Weber and Robert Hill on a 'lute harpsichord' - my third listen and enjoying more each time - the strings on the harpsichord really blend well with the VdG -  :)

Witt, Friedrich (1770-1836) - Symphonies & Flute Concertos - No. 6 also known as the Turkish Symphony because of the instruments added and the fascination that the Europeans had of this area at the time.  The Flute Concerto is really a 'top-notch' composition and performance!

With this in mind, do the separate cds have "more" on them.  In short, are the individual cds in the box the same as the separate cds?

As far as I can see the discs are the same in content, but don't pin me down on it.

First listen.

One of the best sound recordings by Chandos, and the music is definitively going straight to my heart.

Good to know.  If you get a chance, might you compare one or two.  I really like how this label sounds on my system and it garners two favorite time periods of music for my me and my wife, so I may need to seriously consider it.
