The cat dragged it in today, and I'm already listening to it. At night, headphones... thunderstorms outside, but far away... sweltering heat... and a searing Elektra-scene...

I love this one too! I've put it on now too. :)

Have you heard Danczowska's recording of Szymanowski's violin concertos? Highly recommended!
Cool! :D - Cheers for the recommendation, I have added the Danczowska/Szymanowski Disc to my wishlist as there are still some 2nd-hand copies available :).

Haven't put this one on in a long time.

A beautiful disc. Wallfisch plays wonderfully and the conducting from Belohlavek, as usual with his Martinu recordings, is passionate and well-paced.

Great Beethoven 9th by Karajan/BPO, 1963 version ...

Where's the Blu-Ray edition? ;)

Finnissy: Gershwin (Nicolas Hodges, piano) - These arrangements for solo piano are really intriguing, and might serve as a good "bridge" for someone who wants to explore some contemporary music.  The Gershwin elements are all there, just slightly, subtly, and creatively altered and rearranged.

Isn't the upsampled standard DVD good enough?  I don't give a darn about BR ...

STRADELLA:     San Giovanni Battista              / Musiciens du Louvre, Minkowski

An oratorio placed between Monteverdi and Alessandro Scarlatti, but without their talent. Remarkable direction of Minkowski, very dramatic, with good singers, in special Huttenlocher as Herode.

Wholeheartedly agreed!

The middle movement of the 1st concerto must be one of the most beautiful things Martinu ever wrote.  Hell, that anyone ever wrote.  (I have the Angelica May recording.)

Antoine - the WTC on clavichord looks quite appealing!  :D

Not available on Amazon USA, but JPC lists the 4-disc set for 35 Euros; interestingly, the Arta website has the same offering for 17 Euros (but have no idea what the shipping would be to the USA from eastern Europe?).

Read the blog review and assume that you agree?  Dave  :)
