Because...?

Well sometimes late-romantic music strikes me, often when it's late at night and I haven't listened to late-romantic music a long time and when I don't listen with full attention.

No electricity at home for the last 30 hours, so no music.   :(

Oof! Hope power is or will be restored pronto!

The piano concerto is quite good. Can't make of the guitar concerto. I have to listen again. The solo sounds like sleezy club jazz improvisation, the orchestra not so, and there is this constant percussion drumming that often sounded annoying. When I am in a better state of mind (been under too much stress lately) maybe I will have a better and clearer feel for it. Wait and see...

The more I listen to it, the more I hear the beauty in these works. Melodious, lyrical life affirming music, well composed and performed. The string writing is awesome, and the interaction between the different sections, produces a harmony most gorgeous.

Hmm . . . was remarking right away certain Prokofiev-ish elements of tone, and lo! I perceive that it was composed not long after Prokofiev's death.

Mysterious and haunting, just like the other side of the moon. Excellent!

You're welcome. I expect the same quality from the other works but I must postpone the pleasure till tomorrow.

That is a most entertaining work from a greatly underappreciated composer!

I'm listening to the music of one of the greatest songwriters of all time, Ludwig Senfl. This disv seems the current safest bet for a well recorded and performed overview of his best work (but he really deserves a far wider representation on disc than he currently has):
