Hartmann 6/Fricsay. My touchstone version. Might be slightly less wild than Leitner in the finale, but it's better played and the first movement packs a hell of a wallop in this one. Now I just need to hear the Scherchen....
"I don't at all mind actively disliking a piece of contemporary music, but in order to feel happy about it I must consciously understand why I dislike it. Otherwise it remains in my mind as unfinished business."

Tim Handly made a very good recording, and this Orchestra makes a good show of it.
I love the music by Copland, and this recording does him proud.

I do not have these last two pieces Harry....just put this on my wish-list.
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Like his Chopin Nocturnes, this is excellent! The price is certainly right.  :)

Mozart

Mozart's 39th symph, life's philosophy without any words.

Lady Chatterley

Earlier,I listened to an old recording of Christopher Parkening playing Bach.Lovely.

Kullervo

Dutilleux - Symphony No. 2, "Le Double"; Metaboles; Shadows of Time (Graf, Bordeaux Aquitane National Orchestra)

This is my introduction to this composer. He definitely has a unique sound — the three works here are all very texturally interesting and colorfully orchestrated.

More comments to come with further listening...

I love music. Sadly, I'm an audiophile too.

Luka Sorkocevic. (1734-1789)

Complete instrumental Works.

Symphonies.

Salzburger Hofmusik/Wolfgang Brunner.

Well to be honest, this is bloody fabulous music. How could one expect that, having such a unknown name? Lively well written symphonies, with a nice cheerful jolt to it, a cloudbreaker, that with gentle ease brings you up to scratch before you can say dickerdidap. Burkhard Pitzer Landeck made a excellent recording of it, and these musicians know their instruments extremely well.
A good and healthy beginning of the day.
Recommended!

This cd is great fun Bill.

Enrique Granados.

Piano Works, Volume VIII.

Douglas Riva, Piano.

This disc begins with with a delightful Caress Waltz, and that in the morning.
The rest of the music is happy go round, and quite a assembly of goodies.
Recording and performance is fine, as always in this series.
A pity that Naxos thought 44 minutes of music enough.

I just love the piano music of Granados and that Carrezza Waltz is my favourite of all. I could listen to it the whole day without getting tired. :)

Well yes that is exactly what I mean with this disc, you can listen to it without getting tired.
The Album of Melodies is so beautiful, reminds me of Paris, Faure, Debussy, Mompou, even Turina.

Hugo Alfven.

Symphony No. 4,  "From the Outermost Skerries", opus 39.

Festival Overture, opus 52.

Arndis Halla, Soprano Vocalise.
Johann Valdimarsson, Tenor Vocalise.
Iceland SO/Niklas Willen.

First I have to say that I rate Alfven high as a composer, and that these compositions are a joy for me to listen to. but I have some argument with the vocalise parts, not that I get the trembles listening to the soprano, but first because I dislike the voice part in the symphony, nay, find it ugly in the extreme, and secondly the voices aren't that good. That said the music is extremely beautiful!
The sound is idiosyncratic, but I miss in the dense orchestration the details, and the somewhat slow tempi robs it occasionally of its magic.
I am satisfied, at least its better as the Early BIS recordings with Jarvi, those recordings were lethargic.
