Que, that is again a winner for me, so well played and recorded.....

Jean Francaix.

Orchestral Works.

Les Malheurs de Sophie, Tableaux 1-3.
Concertino for Piano and Orchestra.
Les Bosquets de Cythere.

Ulster Orchestra Thierry Fisher.
Piano, Philippe Cassard.

Francaix always brings a smile on my face, especially the Malheurs done by Sophie, they are great fun, and so well orchestrated, but that goes for all his compositions really. Apart from this, the recording is one of the best I ever heard from Hyperion. Simon Eadon excelled himself in all respects, remembering that his recordings are always top notch.
Strongly recommended.

You'll find there a more of your fellow countrymen here.

Are you referring to Northern Europeans, or I-must-have-the-entire-set-ians? :P

I've been listening to his piano trio lately - very fun, but the only recording I've been able to find is downright mediocre (by the Jean Francaix trio, no less!). I've... I've resorted to youtube to get a good performance of it. **shudders**

I'm starting the day with the first CD from this marvelous set:

It might seem excessive to collect the whole series, but I have not been disappointed yet. I'm a bit of a completist, and the thought of having all the music by a composer appeals to me.

Only 3 more boxes to go  :)

When I was looking at the BIS sets, I just ended up buying the Essential Sibelius set, which is a 15-CD set that collects all the symphonies, almost all of the tone poems, choral music, chamber music, incidental music, etc. Here's what it looks like:

Good morning George, and others ;D

Heinrich Schutz.

Anderer Teil kleiner geistlichen Concerten, opus 9.
SWV 306-337. Volume I.

Cappella Augustana, Matteo Messori.

I am constantly and pleasantly surprised by this box. I play this now for the second time, and my love for it deepens all the time.
Its a gift and a great wonder if music and artists meet each other in perfect harmony.

Good morning, George!

Сергей Сергеевич [Sergei Sergeyevich]
Symphony № 3 in c minor, Opus 44 (1928)
Berliner Philharmoniker
Ozawa

Prokofiev – 7 Symphonies, Поручик Киже

Hearing Rozhdestvensky's recording of the Third (recommended by our own Edward) has been illuminative . . . between this, and revisiting the Ozawa, I am more keenly attuned to the Third than ever before.

Jacob Regnart.

Missa Super Oeniades Nymphae.

Cinquecento

If you are not sure about this composer than you should try this cd, a superb rendering as there ever was.  This group of singers are exemplary in matching the vocal lines. Blend and balance are perfect, and they never loose focus, and the voices (male) are so clear yet warm, that this is how the Angels sing in heaven.
