What a contrasting PAIR for a Sunday morning -  ;D

Holmboe, Vagn - String Sinfonias I-IV 'Kairos' w/ Hughes & Camerata Wales - even this disc is quite contrasting in the moods created - at times the music is just beautiful and at others jarring - for those interested, checkout the reprinted Reviews HERE!

Beethoven, LV - Symphonies 7-9 w/ Mackerras - last 2 discs in the set - enjoying this recent production -  :D

George

Chopin
Second piano sonata
Backhaus

Though there was a moment or two of warmth in the slow movement and incredible clarity in the finale, this is not a recommended performance.

MAFFEI Le Petit Prince

One of the great discoveries of the year for me... Fabio Maffei's "Little Prince" is one of the most enchanting pieces of music I know. Who cares what century it was written in (1995) or that it is tonal with hints of Messiaen. It is sublime.

Listening to Prokofiev's Sixth again. Ozawa/Berlin

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

I listened to Bellini's "La Sonnambula."
Martha doesn't signal when the orchestra comes in, she's just pursing her lips.

The Brahms from this:

Wonderful!

I noticed that the complete du Pre edition contains no less than three recordings of the Brahms Opus 99, which have first movements timings of 6'41, 8'26 and 8'59.  The GROC has 9'03, presumably the 8'59 with a little extra silence at the end or beginning.  What is the timing of the recording you are listening to?

These are a few of the vinyl sets I hope to spin over the next few weeks ...

I have that Harnoncourt set, including Musical Offering and Sonatas for Viola da Gamba.  I wish it was available on CD.  It was included in the chamber music box of their Bach2000 edition, but not since, as far as I know.
