Very beautiful. Unbelievable that such great ballet music is virtually unknown.  8)

Giving this a spin:

Enjoying the clarinet concerto, but confirming my previous impression of Gran Duo as a bit dull.

I need to hear that one - "unbelievable that such great [...] music is virtually unknown" is certainly how I would describe most of Pierné's compositions :)

RESPIGHI: CONCERTO IN MODO MISOLIDIO (1925)

Olli Mustonen, piano
Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra; Sakari Oramo
ONDINE
Construction-wise reminds the Violin Sonata (in b-minor) in its three movements, the last being a passacaglia. Thematically little lacking in themes that woul have a clear profile? Anyway this was my first listen. Except for the third movement which I liked so much (it has a wonderfully lyric passage near the end of the movement) that I ha to listen it the second time.

That's what I think too, I only listen to the clarinet concerto now.

Hmm, I need to revisit the Gran Duo (not a retaliatory listen . . . I honestly don't much remember the piece).

Scarpia

I was thinking of listening to the π variations but now that the enigma is solved it seems pointless.  Really, 20 minutes to specify π to three decimal places.  Pffft.

Right now Milhaud, Les Choephores.  Its becoming a French night here.  Only thing missing are escargots in garlic  ;D
