You're welcome. I think that Rachmaninov recording came from '81 or '82. I could be wrong. I'll have to dig that recording out .

Recorded in 1983, released in 1984. It was one of the first CDs I bought.

Here's hoping it's uncut! : )

Rattle's LA Second is uncut. I recall a Gramophone interview where Rattle said LA orchestra members, who'd performed the piece with Rachmaninoff himself conducting, told him Rach had made cuts although he never authorized anyone else to do so  :D

I wonder if there are any recordings in the vaults of Rattle conducting the Clevelanders?

Probably. WCLV, Cleveland's classical radio station, taped many concerts.

Cleveland and M6? I remember a distinctive cover that keeps popping up every now and then in these parts. ;D

Thanks for telling us. I'll look out for that unmistakeable cover I mentioned... perhaps it's Sarge who posts it?

Rattle has commercially available M6 recordings with Berlin and Birmingham, not Cleveland. The Cleveland M6s are Szell and Dohnányi. I'm not aware of any Rattle recording with the Cleveland Orchestra. If you figure it out, Opus, let us know.

I'm probably remembering all the wrong things. :-\ For all I know, I could mistaking Levine for Rattle, what with all that fluffy hair on their respective heads. ;D

Does he? Don't know how I could miss a recent BPO Mahler recording! It's not on EMI is it?
I know the CBSO recording, which I love dearly! Maybe a favourite M6 of mine actually....

It's a live recording from 1987 released in 2006. A co-production of EMI, Radio Berlin Brandenburg and the Berlin Phil. It's part of a special anniversary series called Berliner Philharmoniker im Takt der Zeit. You can see the entire series here.

Ah, I shall definitely take a look into this. Wasn't this his debut with the BPO? Thanks Sarge!

Yes, this M6 is his debut with Berlin. I bought it after one of our forum members (Misha) declared it the best M6 he'd ever heard. I won't go quite that far but it is rather good.

Thanks Sarge. If his CBSO M6 is anything to go by, then this other M6 should be good as well... :D

There's an Ormandy recording (LP) that uses those cuts, quite extensive in places.  I may  have marked my score  - another project.

Great aria's. Wonderful music, playing it in a silent night. Felt quite strange this day, feeling ill, then better then bad again, trying to recover.

Earlier today:
Bach - Toccata's / Gould.
Handel -  Arie pour un amante

Welcome back Henk, it's nice to see you around here!  :)

Henk

Thanks Antoine. :)

I am slightly, but deep en sincerly, moved in an emotional way with my return. I like to be in touch again with everybody here.

This really turns a smile on my face again at this moment, after having some confusing and troublesome days.
