Yes, thank you, but Antoni Wit and Charles Mackerras are conductors not composers ;) :).
Oh yes sorry thats what i meant!!
Of course they weren't the composers were they? ;D

There, I disrespected Bax and seem to have touched off a mini-craze for him here.

Wondering if you've ever heard the Bostock performance from the Membran box I was not sold on yesterday  (Bostock, Munich Symphony).

Thread duty:  definitely not Bax.

No, I don't know the Bostock performance. Bostock did make Brian's Psalm 23 sound rather tepid, but I can't and won't judge him on the basis of that recording alone. As for Bax - you may 'disrespect' him all you like. If he isn't your cup of tea, he isn't. I love his first three symphonies and some of his tone-poems. But to be very clear - if I never heard a note of Bax again, it wouldn't kill me.

This is wonderful to hear! :) Interesting performances you chose by the way. If you want another great recording of the 5th, I'd highly recommend Chailly's recording on Decca. To me, it is the perfect performance!

With Mahler, you may want to go to his 1st symphony next. For that, I'd highly recommend Solti's recording!

Glad you are enjoying Mahler! :)
I look forward to hearing more of his beautiful music.
Thanks for the tip!
I'll try his 1st symphony next! :D

Speaking of Mahler...

A very delicate sound, almost too delicate for Mahler's 6th, probably could've used some more musicians.

??? How did they manage to pull that off? Record themselves three times and put the tracks together?!

I had to check my calender when I saw that, and surely it's NOT April 1st.

Well, at least it's not Viol d'Amore...

Ah, so our resident sock monkey has put it out a week early.

Google tells me the cover is actually from a disc containing the music of Elgar and RVW.

Solti's Mahler No.1 is absolutely wonderful, no doubt, but Bernstein's recoding is even better in my opinion.
