hmmm... the Karajan recording... that's an interesting one! And another recording I haven't listened to for quite a long time... I remember it being quite brilliant though, although not great enough to compare with my favourites. :)

hmmmm.....you're lucky there's not a Karajan hammer! >:( ;) Of course, I understand though.

This has made me realize that I have not had to use my Mahler hammer in a long time! Seems everyone is behaving well!  8)

So it seems, everyone is getting devoted mahlerian. :)

:D

To compensate for not being able to listen to Pappano's M6 this evening, I am listening to various excerpts from the Tennstedt Mahler cycle.... excerpts from no.3 and 6 so far.  :o
I need this now....

There could soon be three Mahler cycles on the listening pile to listen to rather soon!  8)

Though I'm having trouble picturing any of the men as Fasolt or Fafner... ;D

I don't know about that. Those two guys in front look like they could handle the roles.

So you could soon have enough to listen for a whole month! You would be certainly be in good company :)

I have never heard Tennstedt in Mahler; once listened, tell me what you think about his performances :)

I think it might take me longer than a month to get through all that is on my listening pile! Not only will there be 3 Mahler cycles, but also the Ring Cycle, the Vaughan Williams symphonies, Simpson symphonies, various Tippett cds, Prokofiev cds, and much much more! I should take a picture of my listening pile and upload it to show you how much I have to listen to! :D

I love this recording.
It's good stuff indeed, sadly I've been neglecting it for far too long.

I only talked about those three Mahler cycles, they would take a month (or even more!) to be listened! :)
Haha, your listening pile seems to be very long, it would be funny if you took a picture of it. I have no idea about how you can resist starting to listen to Wagner's Ring.....don't you hear the Rhine maidens calling you? :D

various Tippett cds.....it just seems that John has been working hardly to spread Tippett's knowledge! I only listened to Tippett's Piano Concerto so far, and it was rather impressive :)

Trust me, Ilaria - it is so tempting to start the Ring! But I am going to have to wait until the Easter Holidays when I have a break from school, so that I can concentrate on it more. :) I can't wait to start it!

Yes, without John's enthusiasm, I doubt I would have been so interested to start exploring Tippett more! Thank you, John! :D

I can't reply to all the recent posts that I would like to but allow me to say a few words: I'm humbled and quite flattered that our young Daniel will be giving Tippett a go. I simply can't wait to hear his opinion of Tippett's music.

Ilaria, my enthusiam for Tippett runs deep like my enthusiam for Shostakovich, Prokofiev, RVW, Ravel, Bartok, Bruckner, Koechlin, and Villa-Lobos. These composers reach me like no others so it is my duty to hopefully get more people turned onto their music. You have Wagner, Liszt, and Rachmaninov. Daniel has Mahler, R. Strauss, and Elgar. I have Tippett, Koechlin, and Villa-Lobos. :)
