Maurice Ravel
Piano Concerto in G

This is Argerich's second recording with Abbado I believe. I believe I prefer it to her first one (coupled with Prokofiev's 3rd PC). It's a live recording too I believe.

Very nice disc, indeed.  For me, the Fantasia for Cello and Orchestra is the star.

I haven't still listened to the whole Abbado's performances with the BP, only excerpts, which sound excellent though. I think the best recording of the Piano Concerto in G I've ever heard is the Zimerman/Boulez.

Yes, Fanstia is a fine work. I'm on the Clarinet Concerto right now. Another good work.

You should hear Jean-Efflam Bavouzet in Ravel's Piano Concerto in G. Very fine. Equal to or even better than the Zimerman/Boulez.

Such a beautiful, powerful work, absolutely brilliant!! ;D There are some moments in the 2nd movmement where the use of brass reminds me the ouverture of Der fliegende Holländer.....
I love that too. It's a disc that I always get back to.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Received a few more Goldberg Variations recordings, here are the two that I've listened to today. This new lot now brings me to a dozen Goldberg recordings, truly one of my favorite pieces of music.

An incredible (intense) recording.

The typesetting of the artwork is a joke though, highlights: "Giuseppe Verde" and "Barone Duopol" (duopoly in German) :D

Listening to Shosty's VC No. 1. Vengerov is little rough for my tastes, but he's passionate and emotional about this music and, in many cases, this outweighs any cons I may have with their tone or general approach to playing.

It's one of my favorite works also.  I've not heard the Levin, although I can rectify that on NML.  I acquired the Vinikour quite a few years ago; it didn't turn me on, but I should give it another listen (it's been a long time).
