I think you meant maiden Monday Magnard musings... :)
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Turns out I have an hour-and-a-half drive ahead of me this morning, the last hour-and-a-quarter in town or on freeways. Which Mahler symphony would you suggest, Sarge? (And others, if interested in contributing to my peace of mind in traffic. :) )

If you want peace of mind, the Fourth.

I almost suggested the First, but no, not with that third movement . . . .

And the rowdy Finale would only work if he wanted to get in a little road rage  ;D

Hmmm -- good idea. Haven't heard Salonen's recording with Barbara Hendricks in quite some time, having been listening mostly to MTT, Fischer, or Haitink/Schäfer in the past couple of years. Speaking of Salonen, I've lately heard his Philharmonia 6th and 9th via Mog, and though there is much to admire in both recordings, they seem uneven to me, often venturing from serving the music to exhibiting the virtuosity of the orchestra. Have you spent any time with either of these recordings?

The Third, if you can drive quickly. You'll get all your angst out before hitting the traffic!

No, I don't own them, haven't heard them. His Fourth, though, is a recording I've been keen to acquire.
