I also likes it.
Are you familiar with Janson's account of the 15th?

I do remember the second movement being especially exquisite.

I find it to be a great reading of the piece.

Ashkenazy makes for a good comparison. His second and fourth movements are swifter in style than most but no less effective, especially as he speeds through the percussion-filled coda, about theee minutes faster than Janson and five minutes faster than sanderling on the finale.

I think this Les Ombres errantes, by a M. Francois Couperin is likely to become a favourite in this genre. The Ruckers sounds lovely. [From Orange-Black Box, of course.]

I'm finding all of this Shostakovich discussion utterly delicious. :)

Now listening:

An outstanding performance so far. The New York Philharmonic never sounded better and Masur sounds inspired.

I agree. I'm very picky about the Shostakovich Sixth. Few satisfy me but Caetani's did.

Sarge

I think it maybe the tempi he chose in the symphony that gave it more impact. I never heard the last movement so hysterically played. I believe Caetani is quite underrated as is his Shostakovich cycle.
