The composer thanks you heartily.

:) The pleasure's mine.

Oh, and I just finished listening to Op. 16* as well. Wonderful music that. I didn't realise SC was on auto-play and was happily solving a crossword when all of a sudden I was jolted by the opening notes on the piano. I couldn't resist thereafter.

First Listen

Ferruccio Busoni
Fantastica Contrappuntistica

Do you know the Elegies and Sonatinas, Nav? Superb music. The third Elegy is the base of FC's beginning.

Yesterday, I listened to Ogdon's Piano Concerto recording. I should revisit Fantasia Contrappuntistica, too - perhaps later today or tomorrow.

Nope; not yet. Just beginning my exploration of his works. :)

Thanks. But what made me curious about this work, is the current offer at Hyperion's website. ;D

Looks nice indeed (and plenty of other nice stuff there too, with the bulk discounts, not that I'm buying anything before Christmas)

The composer thanks you yet more heartily, and again. That is a wonderful compliment.

Can't say I'm in a particularly festive mood, but I imagine one recording I'll listen to on Christmas is this one:

But the day after Christmas, I promised Karl I would listen to Haydn's The Creation (Karajan DG Original remaster), so this, I hope, will prove a joyous experience.

No problem. I hope you enjoy Schnittke's Peer Gynt as much as I have.

Mendelssohn: Piano quartet no. 3
Brahms: Piano quartet no. 3

The Schubert Ensemble

The coupling of Mendelssohn and Brahms piano quartets was a good idea, it gives variety and helps promote the Mendelssohn ones. They are actually the interpretations I find more interesting on the 3 CDs of this series.

Now:

Listening to Sea Pictures. Such a gorgeous work. Janet Baker never sounded better and Barbirolli's accompaniment is supreme.

CLAUDIO MERULO (1533-1604)   Complete Works for Organ.
CD 2 from Volume I.
Third listen 2012 acquisition.

This set is one of my highlights of 2012. My joy is boundless when listening to these fantastic recordings of Merulo's Organ works. All works so well together on this project, that's is a small wonder to me, that not everybody rushes to the next internet site and order this.

I quite agree, Harry. :)

As you might have noted, I also listed that as one of my favourite purchases of this year - and at the top of that list! :)

For any organ aficionado this would a wonderful surprise as a performance, and probably the music would be a pleasant discovery as well.
