Out of this world, Ilaria! Just incredible. I would highly recommend you listen to his piece 'Geysir' to get started on his music.

Really, like Iceland? How charming. ;D Thank you for the feedback, I've noted down some compositions which sound quite interesting: Geysir, Dettifoss, Saga Symphony, Hekla, Reminiscence du Nord and Trois Peintures Abstraites.

What did you think, Ilaria? This piece is just incredible, so explosive and thrilling!

More Leifs for me, this composer is really becoming one of my favourites. John, thank you so much for introducing me to him!

Requiem
A beautiful little piece, and a completely different world to Hekla and Geysir. I love how the sopranos slide to the major 3rd at the close :)

:o

Totally agree, such an impressive, powerful and beautifully atmospheric piece it was; absolutely thrilling! ;D I really love the dark, haunting melody in the opening (the use of the brass reminds me the Motiv des Sinnens ;D). Wonderful use of percussion in the middle, the climaxes express a very overwhelming energy, just like a giant geyser; the orchestration is stunning! I'm looking forward to listening to more by Leifs. :)

Together with McCabe and Brendel my favourite Haydn on modern piano, indeed.  :)

Everything is outstanding, here.  The composer, the composition, the performance, the orchestra, the conductor!  :)

**And the cover on the CD (not the jacket), of Shostakovich fixing or tuning his radio!!  ;D

I love the 11th, I'll need to track this one down, perhaps on Spotify. Thanks, Mr. Nut!  ;D

My pleasure, Mr. Sock!  :)

This is a great performance, but I prefer even the live version of young Ukrainian conductor (Kirill Karabits and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra), which was a BBC Magazine Music freebee.  :D

Brian

Ray, I saw Karabits and the Bournemouth SO do the Rach 2 live and it was a phenomenal experience, so I'm not surprised!

I'm getting Trendy Scandinavian Composer envy over all these people listening to Jon Leifs, so here's me listening to Dag Wiren as retaliation:
