Yes, a very enjoyable collection indeed. The Romance for harmonica, strings and piano is a cool little piece - I don't think I've ever before heard (of) harmonica in classical music.

Got to love Szymanowski! Do you own the Rattle recordings as well? I like Wit's performances a lot as well.

Now:

Listening to Violin Sonata No. 2. All three sonatas from VL are beautiful. It's been quite some time since I've listened to this recording. Great stuff.

John - just checked by Villa-Lobos collection and do not have those particular works - CD not available on Amazon USA (at least yet?), but MDT 'across the pond' does, so will see 'what else' is there that piques my interest?  Dave :)

Yes, Amazon does have listed (it's where I bought it actually). Here's the link:

You can buy it for $4 from the Amazon MP seller ImportCDs right now. A very good price indeed. :)

Now this:

Very neat sounding, so far.

The Wand RCA reissue box which you are enjoying; two symphonies led by Giulini (the Seventh & the Ninth).  And the Fifth & Sixth led by Haitink (had to return the Seventh, which was a defective CD). Oh, and I know I've got the Sixth led by Jesús López-Cobos somewhere . . . .

And more on the way, including the HvK box.

That's fast work!
I liked the Giulini performances a lot when listened to them from Spotify - but I'm not exactly experienced when it comes to Bruckner...

Very neat sounding, so far... The Szymanski, on a piano tuned to perfect fifths, channels Bach... Steffens' 're-pictions' are always intriguing (music composed based on paintings)

One does not usually associate the harpsichord  with tone poems, the idea seems quite remote from Richard Strauss et al.  But there are some: BYRD:The Battell and The Bells, BULL The King's Hunt and others are on this disc played by Sylvia Kind
SHOSTAKOVICH: Symphoy no.6
London Philharmonic    Adrian Boult, cond.
and a real misc. set of short pieces played by Frank Glazer (BEETHOVEN, MOZART, LISZT, WAGNER, SCHUBERT etc.)
