THE VIRGIN STORE in Union Sq is having a 35% off sale on their entire classical section, along with Jazz and World (the downstairs stuff, essentially, minus the DVDs).

Thanks for the heads-up, Adam!  (Although I hope this doesn't portend that Virgin is liquidating their classical department, since it's one of the few stores left.)

I've heard around town that they haven't renewed their lease, and in November the basement (what the heck remains of it) will be incorporated to the first floor, and after December, it'll be more NYC vacant space.  The Times Sq location will still exist, but for downtowners like us, that's hardly an appealling option.  Seems as far as stores go, the only options remaining will be the irreplaceable, unforgettable Academy*, Barnes and Noble, and...I don't even know.   >:(

*though i managed to forget to even mention it initially, hence the edit  :)

You still have a Virgin store? All the UK ones went west some time ago and were bought out and rebranded.

I recall buying a Lohengrin with Janowitz in that Union Sq store. Nice to know it is still there.

Oh cool.  Do you get to any Pittsburgh Symphony concerts?

--Bruce

Not much. I hate how people wear perfume and talk and (literally, at a Mahler 3 in Baltimore) do their nails and clean out their pocketbooks. I don't do movies or plays much either.

However, I'm thinking about some chamber concerts at Carnegie Music Hall this season. Piano Trios are my new favorite thing.

There's still one in Athens (with a pathetic, almost non-existent classical section); moribund for quite some time now. I believe it's still surviving thanks to tourists; nobody else seems to actually buy anything from there.

Oh, awesome!  I was on the verge of starting one!  This'll certainly be more fun than reading todays wall st journal!
