Also, you should observe the distinction between buying beer in the US and buying American beer. One is a simple matter of where you are when you make the purchase;  the other has to do with the beverage's provenance.

"The beverage's provenance" is probably a good phrase to repeat a few times to be sure that you haven't had too much to drink.
