Unpleasant news. The brass première that wasn't: "As it turns out, the brass group
we were working with decided they were unable to program your piece
with very short notice before the concert.  OME only found out through
an e-mail that was sent at 9 PM the night before."

The jury's still out. But I've had a good night's rest, and I'm ready to roll my sleeves up again.

An idle motion and suddenly everything somehow gets highlighted and deleted!  :o

And things calm down a great deal on those two pp. so I should be able to wrap them up in short order. By the way, I am working from a pdf scan. It's a bit dodgy here and there. Once I get to the final double-bar, I should review the whole score, make needed adjustments. But the biggest task at that point basically entails the woodwind parts. To explain: on the source score, Flutes, Oboes, Clarinets, Bassoons and Horns are all allotted two staves each. The two Horn parts, though, can reasonably be condensed to a single staff. I'm going to need to make typographic decisions for each of the woodwinds largely on a system-by-system basis. Or, I may find that the simplest course is to go ahead and let each instrument occupy two staves.

Last night, more or less on a whim, I went to a reception with College of Wooster President Anne McCall. It was a genuinely fun time, which largely surprised me, though we might say that was exactly what I hoped in attending. Talking to Dr McCall, I realized that it had been a while since I had tried reaching out to, for example, the Director of the Wooster Chorus. So this has been The Night of Cold E-mail Msgs.

One one hand, I feel sure-ish that I had reached out to the Director of the Wooster Symphony before (and got no reply.) On t'other, he returned to mr this morning inviting me to send sa perusal score or two with recordings. Well. in for a penny, in for a pound, so I've sent him both the first mvt of the First Symphony, and the Thitd Symphony. Well, we shall see.

I've proofed the score and prepped all the parts save the woodwinds. The easiest thing is to go ahead and give each of the flutes, oboes and clarinets separate staves. I'll start with bassoons, and see if they really need separate staves, too.

I finished the Fl, Ob & Cl parts, and called Paul because a second pair of eyes is very helpful (read: necessary) He's had me send the score I've done, and we'll go from there.
