Quote from: krummholz on August 09, 2024, 07:46:10 AMJust listened to Fair Warning - loved it! Still trying to figure out how to defeat Soundcloud's ads - right now if I return to the page to listen to the other two movements, it wants to play an ad for condoms... :(
Thank you! Weird ad "tie-in!"

Managed to force SC to reload without playing that atrocious ad. I hate SoundCloud - but I loved your piece, especially the middle movement (Suspension Bridge), the beginning of which could almost have been by Holmboe - almost!

Have Reid and Cerutti ever played this work? It sounds like a very meaty and challenging piece, one that they might really be able to get into.

As yet, the première has been the sole performance. And thank you!

You mean you're not a 22-year old single male?  ;)  :D

PD

p.s.  But, seriously, I've only listened to things on SC a couple of times (I think?); how do you avoid obnoxious ads?

And I don't know any sure-fire way. On Karl's page, reloading the page seemed to stop the ad and also return control to the buttons (when the ad is playing, the buttons to start playing one of the movements are all grayed out). So that's what I'd try first. But given that we're the product if we don't subscribe to the service, I have very low confidence in this suggestion.

Have you considered asking Liz or Allison?

I'll check it out...with some "trepidation".  ::)

Found a call for string orchestra pieces. The Third Symphony is far too long to qualify. But I can also submit more than one score. So I'm thinking about two different excerpts.

Darn!  May I ask whether that is average, low high for submissions?  I do get that times are rather tough for you right now.  :(

There was also a separate call for a chamber piece. Before learning that I had mis-read that paragraph, I arranged Surfing for fl/cl/vn. So I ought to have stuck to my resolve not to re-arrange stuff, as all my work those two days was a waste.

Well, shame on me for saying so. Puttering to draw two extracts from the piece prompted me to nudge my publisher to find a prospective conductor. Mark called today to make sure he had the Sibelius file, and so I informed him that there were now these two excerpts (Elegy, Op. 175a and Sun Dance, Op. 175b) which might be performed on their own. So if, as Binghamton did, they balk at a 25-minute piece, there are shorter options.

as someone relatively new to GMG, I struggle to get into the enormous blog which is Henning's Headquarters and really don't have time to read 475 pages. Perhaps a short summary for those in my position of who and where you are at might help.

Still, I finally got round to listening to the violin sonata and must say the middle movement in particular I found both fascinating and moving. Clearly it's worth investigating more of your stuff on Soundcloud, though I'm not quite sure where to start.
