Karl Henning

Quote from: Karl Henning on March 29, 2024, 10:46:58 AMI haven't felt much motivation to compose this year, but somehow I'm thinking now of sketching rather a free-form organ piece, just for fun. Part of my free-ranging dreaming last night was writing some of this, though scarcely anything notewise from Dreamland is any use. Will report.
I've tinkered off and on (since I've had Sibelius open for, e.g. the trumpet fanfare. Only the loose idea of the high pedal note came from the dream. Or, maybe it was a D in the dream ....

For the piece to be of use to Barbara in the Prelude to the service, I'm aiming for a duration of four minutes. Since there's no urgency, and the piece is now of reasonable mass, I will coast, and work on it when I'm in the humor.

Genesis 1:2, correct? Can I ask what sparked the title?

Yes. In a way, the piece did. I had written about half a minute of the piece before considering a title, the intent on writing a "formless" (but not void) piece pointed me towards Genesis.

Great.  It will be magnificent to listen to a live recital by The Karl Henning Ensemble.  I do watch livestream concerts, so with this one I will feel a true sense of pleasure because...well, because it's a live performance of music by a friend I've never met, simple as that.  I'll tune in at around 3:15pm over here, that may be an hour too early, I'll figure it out.  But I'm going to watch that.  It's on my phone Calendar as an Event.

Sometime past, fresh out of rehab, I had trouble with my portable recorder, but I should try afresh. That is a good project for this weekend.

Great!  Maybe another member has a recorder as a back-up (?).

We had backup while Pam was Stateside, but now that she's repatriated to Portugal....

Looks like my device is kaput.

Good rehearsal today, but it took it out of me: had to take a nap when I got home. Looking forward to Tuesday.

Good news, @Cato ... Peter is bringing a video camera, and Dan will make an audio recording, so we'll have a good video record on which we can upgrade the audio track.

The band:
Peter H. Bloom, Carol Epple, Dan Zupan & Dave Zox. Peter & Carol have been core members for an age, so at the very least they haven't tired of playing my music. Dan and Dave are new recruits, and their enthusiasm for the music has been highly gratifying.
