Quote from: Karl Henning on August 02, 2024, 03:53:22 PMI'm not really at the "breathing easier" point, but I seem to have found two places listed which might work. Establishing communication with the parties who have listed them, though, has been peculiarly dodgy. We shall see. I've informed the landlord of my prospects (such as they are), and I'm hoping that may mean that he lays off setting a Court date.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and am hoping that they are not old listings.

Has your wife been able to help scour apartment/house listings and/or new employment too?  I know that she has her own business to tend to too.

I imagine that it must be hard trying to figure out where to move to whilst being uncertain as to where you will eventually find employment?  :(

When I'm creating at the piano, I tend to feel happy; but - the eternal dilemma - how can we be happy amid the unhappiness of others? I'd do everything I could to give everyone a moment of happiness. That's what's at the heart of my music. — Nino Rota

Quote from: Karl Henning on August 03, 2024, 10:16:17 AMA mixed day. Starting to wonder, if these listings are either a dead end or a scam, just how I find a place. Yet, my optimism of yesterday set me ready to start a new piece today, for three flutes: Surfing an Earthquake.
Brought it to two minutes-ish,

There's a pretty good chance it's now finished (at five minutes and a half) I'll let it sit for a couple of hours and see.

Nice!

By the way, I still think that sometimes you should try composing longer works too....but that's just me.  :)

A thought just occured to me, you might try calling a few realtors in areas where you think that you might want to live and let them know what you are looking for, budget and a bit about yourself (including contact details).  They could possibly have some suggestions/know someone who is looking for a tenant, etc.

While going through the opening bars of the score, I was greeted by an impression that, if Dvorak were still composing today, he would compose this work!  😇

So Karl is in very good company!   8)

I don't think my head will be in a space to undertake a longer piece before I become physically settled. Then, I'm unsure if I will be motivated to write another big piece for the shelf. We shall see. I think I've mentioned before, I have an old friend who, since having been graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music, only composes a piece when he is commissioned to do so. Obviously, if I had waited for commissions, I should never have composed most of my orchestral music, and I set about writing orchestral music in order to acquire the facility, lest after decades a commission for an orchestral piece should come in, but I would be unable to fulfil the commission because I had no experience.

My old boss' wife (when the company was still Fleet Investment Advisors) is a realtor. I got in touch with them early on, but they were not sanguine. Basically advised me to apply to the Housing Authority.

The bad news is, one of those two listings has been withdrawn, and the other still seems dodgy. The good news is, I've found a listing in Jamaica Plain to which I have succeeded in submitting an application. I thought it was an apartment, but it's a room. I may have to do this, though. Having a look Thursday.

The amusing synergy is that my eye recently looked on the program for Dana Huyge's Graduate Recital at Eastman (on which he played the Henning Viola Sonata) and thus I was reminded that preceding my piece was the Dvořák Opus 74 Terzetto.

Sending ongoing best wishes. Not very practically helpful, I know 😕

Alright, well...call other realtors and/or maybe send some emails?  Remember, they are also trying to keep their clients happy and I'm positive that there are compassionate ones [I've heard stories of realtors having to deal with animals that the owners could not take with them...finding them homes], helping to clean out houses, etc.  And they also keep their ears open as to what is going on in the areas that they deal with...so try again!  :)
