Today!

Sorry to disappoint, but we have no recording.
Paul did a fine job! It's a piece I wrote some 30 years ago, and it's a piece pretty close to within my limited technical compass, so I had played it any number of times en famille. This was the first time I've heard the piece played upon a physical piano in decades, and Paul's performance took me back to the apartment in Petersburg. There were nine in the audience (incl. yrs truly) and everybody received the piece well. Maybe I should prepare a cb/pf version for Yun and Randy.

Perhaps the pianist could record it privately for you?

What was the reaction of the audience?  I am very happy that the piece was included in his concert!

People used adjectives including lovely and beautiful, so I am naturally pleased. And thank you!

Hi Karl!  I can sympathize with you!  It is exasperating to know that the game was rigged!

Long ago, I applied for teaching positions via the FedGov and certain public school systems: in various ways, I deduced that the game was rigged from the beginning, i.e. that a candidate was already chosen by an inside clique in the bureaucracy, but the job had to be advertised and a few interviews had to be done pro forma, because of "equal opportunity."

In one interview it was embarrassingly obvious - not for me, but for the bureaucrat - that he had not read one word of my curriculum vitae.

At a Catholic high school where I taught for many years, the president went through a great amount of what the Germans call Strassentheater to find a new principal for the school.

We all knew that his closest crony would become the principal!  Nevertheless, out-of-town candidates were flown in at the school's expense, housed at 1st-class hotels, met various benefactors, etc.

The crony, of course, turned out to be "the best choice."  :o  ;)

This was repeated some years later at a Catholic grade-school, where the candidate - whom the faculty had chosen unanimously as their #1 choice - was NOT hired.  Instead, the worst candidate, a lazy, failed Science teacher,* was chosen, mainly because his mother was on the Diocesan Educational Board and a friend of the pastor's.  8)

Unsurprisingly, he was a terrible principal!

* e.g. The Science laboratory - as good as any Science laboratory in a high school - gathered dust during his 5 years as a supposed Science teacher.  Equipment and experiments purchased for the program remained unopened in their original boxes.  His students - 7th and 8th Graders - never did any hands-on experiments during his tenure.

An alumnus who later visited me said: "Why is he the principal?  He was the worst teacher I have ever had!"

Unfortunately, "beautiful", as now used to describe just about everything a certain individual tries to enact, has lost it's appeal to me. Let's stick with "lovely".

I used to share a similar sentiment until I performed in a church one time in my teens. I played an original composition of mine on the guitar and there were several people who came up to me after the service was over and told me how beautiful my piece was and how much they enjoyed it. The fact that I could invoke such a response from these people in the first-place was enough to put a smile on my face and feel grateful for the compliments. It is comments like this that kept me going on the guitar and pushed me to continue to do my thing. Hopefully, the next live performance I partake in (whenever that may be), will move someone enough for them to tell me, thus, motivating me to work even harder on my craft.

I was intentionally vague, probably too vague, in what I posted. I was referring to a particular individual's current overuse of the word "beautiful" for anything he is in favor of (as in big, beautiful, bill.)
The ability to bring joy to people through music is indeed a beautiful wonderful and awesome thing, and Karl's music is also awesome and wonderful.

Tantalizingly close to finishing preparation of all the papers. Did the fingerprinting, although the impairment of my left fingers was a consideration. Sure enough, in the afternoon I got a msg that my prints were rejected and I need to schedule reprinting. Figuring that I need to try with a different team, I scheduled tomorrow afternoon's appointment in a different location.

Sorry to hear that.  It must be frustrating.  Hope that round two goes much better.

Sorry I've lost track of the thread - what position is this for?

Anyway it seems like it should be a simple matter for someone there to manipulate your fingers into the necessary position. I'm sure they can figure it out. Good luck with this!

Ah that's right, now I remember. I couldn't figure out why a job you were applying for required fingerprinting, but that makes sense.
