Yesterday's rehearsal was good, even though we really only read through two of the pieces on the program. Part of what dogged us timewise was how, when I tweaked scoring for Down Along the Canal to Minerva Road, I failed to note accurately all of the parts which I had changed. So we had to print fresh parts for the double-bass and bass clarinet on the spot. Very fortunate for me to have a team of such amiable and gracious colleagues. The benefit of our having read through so little of the program was, we all understood that we need more rehearsals before the 6 August concert. So we now have four rehearsals in our books (two newly-minted dates in addition to the two rehearsals yet this week. Also, we've found a date for September concert at Redeemer. I'm now just waiting for the church to confirm.

Another fabulously productive Henning Ensemble rehearsal this afternoon. Lawd, but did I nap afterwards! Another rehearsal tomorrow afternoon, id est, after PT. So I shall sleep the sleep of the Just tomorrow night.

Also, Robt Gross has sent me his finished piece, which is charmingly written. I see one measure which will ask extra practice from the bassoonist, and likewise another for the bass clarinetist, but it is very well written overall.

New information which has come to light suggests that the leader of the Beasts does not give the time of day to other composers unless they are his student. All I can really say from direct experience is that he has never communicated with me. So now, my expectations have moved from low to nil.
