I hear, "that was just a character N. played. In person, he was very nice."
My opinion: playing a jerkweed in public/for the media is not the occupation of a decent man.
Do I have a related opinion about Internet trolls? Why, yes, I suppose I do.

I composed a substantial message but when I hit "Preview" I got a "forbidden to use this resource" page ... and lost the text. I may try to recompose it sometime tomorrow.

Talked with Greta today. She's been practicing her part for the bassoon/bass clarinet Lamentatio, and she loves it. "Great bassoon writing," she said.

Quote from: Karl Henning on September 16, 2025, 02:43:56 PMAnd I have dutifully knocked off three pp. more of the Op. 61.
I also composed a minute of guitar music,  but my brain feels so out of it, I'll have to see tomorrow if I think it's any good.

Quote from: Karl Henning on September 06, 2025, 06:02:05 PMJust had a touch-base phone call with Kevin, who has some heavy stuff going on which has perforce distracted from the piece. He is rethinking the piece, no longer a set of short pieces but a single elegiac movement, 5-6 minutes.
Kevin has just sent me the finished piece. Over these past several weeks, the cloud of an old friend's imminent passing has shadowed the composer. The friend has now shuffled off this mortal coil, so his piece is more overtly a memorial than at first he planned. @JBS how is the title (Minchah) best rendered in English?
It's a beautiful piece, elegantly written. It also sets me a bit of a puzzle. I probably asked for a 4-6-minute minute piece, and  Minchah runs eleven minutes. Plan A for the program:

Robert Gross, Four's the Charm (première) [5:30]
Karl Henning, Amorphous and Forward-Looking, Op. 196c [6:00]
Henning, A Dance Floor for the Introverted, Op. 178 № 2 [5:30]
Kevin Scott, Minchah (première) [11:00]
Henning, Lamentatio pro sorore sua, Op. 202a (première) [3:15]
Henning, Peace! The Charm's Wound Up, Op. 204 (première) [4:00]
Henning, Moose on the Loose, Op.165a [6:15]
Henning, Nostalgia Ain't What It Used to Be, Op. 191c [2:30]

... will not do for King's, as it runs 44 minutes.
My immediate thought: bump Moose on the Loose to April. Probably do the same with  Amorphous and Forward-Looking. That trims the program to 30-ish minutes, which is perfect:

14 Oct @ King's Plan B

Quote from: Karl Henning on Today at 05:46:42 PMSome more work done on Aaron's piece, too.
I keep working on it, but the sense that what I've been doing is right is eluding me. My feeling, though, is to plough my way out to the final double-bar, and re-touch/repair when I've got the line complete.
