Quote from: Karl Henning on December 09, 2025, 04:58:02 AMMany thanks! The Dr and Maria are feeling better about things as of the final treatment. The follow-up is mid-January as we wait for the present dosage to continue its work.
Is she still doing (if I'm remembering correctly) artwork (painting?) for businesses (besides her own artwork)?...sorry, I'm trying to remember.  In any event, I'm glad that the treatments will be over with soon!

Quote from: Karl Henning on December 09, 2025, 07:44:32 AMOn Sunday (Sunday, if you please) my publisher received 30 days' notice, (legally he's due 60) to leave where he's living. One despairs of the race.
Huh!  Then they need to give him more time to find a new place.

It's a lousy way to treat a tenant in December.

This is months after a couple of colleagues (who have in fact been members for much longer than I) mentioned their awards on social media, and even after some weeks of my trying to get ASCAP's attention, but this message arrived at last today:

Karl Henning,

An independent panel recently reviewed your application for the ASCAP Plus Awards.

We're happy to let you know that you will receive an ASCAP Plus Award in the amount of $200, to be paid as part of your January 2026 domestic writer distribution.

As the only performing rights organization in the US that operates on a not-for-profit basis, ASCAP is proud to support you throughout your career, pay you fairly for performances of your music, and champion your rights in the age of AI. Thanks for being a part of our family.

Wishing you a new year filled with great music and continued success,

ASCAP

Quote from: Karl Henning on December 07, 2025, 12:03:50 PMWell, I'm on bed rest trying to shake a cold.
Progress has been tedious, but this is the best I've felt, first thing in the morning, since Friday. Had to cancel both our December Henning Ensemble rehearsals. And I missed out on Sunday's instrumental rehearsal of Joseph & Mary, which reportedly went well.

And during Advent!!!  "Merry Christmas, get out!"  What a mumser, as my Hebrew neighbors many years ago would have said!

Anyway, we appreciate the good news about Maria Bablyak and the performance in Utah!

For those newer members who do not know of Maria Bablyak's exquisite paintings:

One "hidden benefit" from my employer of 22 years is: they seeded a Pension Fund for me through all those years. I did (though I started later than I might ought to have) opt for a deduction every pay period into a Retirement Account. The Company matched those funds, and that was a benefit I especially pounced on at Annual Bonus time. The long and the short of this post is: while artistically I have not historically been super-happy about the non-musical day job, I look to be better provided for, retirement fundswise than I might have been. The Pension Fund at this point equals a hefty 40% of my IRA. Today, I uploaded documents to roll my Pension Fund over into my IRA, which (screwy though the economic landscape has been) has generally performed well. Because another benefit/blessing from my employer is: a Financial Advisor to oversee the portfolio.

I'm conducting Joseph & Mary, Op. 53 during this morning's service. It's the first I've been to church since a cold laid me flat. Feeling much better, though I'm still rebuilding stamina. About to find out if I can conduct my piece in my sleep.

Good news: performance went well and I received copious warm feedback from musicians and parishioners. Bad news: I was too sleepy-headed to ask Josh before the service to record it.

Very happy to read the Musical Good News!  😇

Is there a possibility to sing and record it later in this Christmas Season?  In the Catholic Church, the season goes at least to January 6th or even to the Sunday after the 6th.
