Forum members I've met face-to-face:

Karl Henning

That was awhile back, where I live now, the geographically closest gmg poster is most likely the well tempered Gurnatron, and then Brian after that.  Haven't met either one though. :)

(poco) Sforzando

Perhaps it's time Sforzando came back to Boston for a visit?

He'd be delighted to, but not with one of your fricking cold Boston winters coming up. Perhaps in the spring, or perhaps we could even meet midway (New Haven?) so Sforzando doesn't have so far to drive.

But, the personal pleasure of the trip for both of us was meeting Bruce Hodges - we spent a couple of hours chatting over drinks & snacks in the lobby bar in our hotel - we all had just a delightful time, and I believe all would agree that another couple of hours would have been easily enjoyed!

Below are a couple of pics just to 'prove' the meeting - I did try to 'crop out' the wine glasses, and admit that Bruce & I did share a couple of glasses of Sauvignon Blanc -  ;D

We've visited the BIG APPLE often but not as much in recent years - have really missed the experience and hope to return soon, and would love to see Bruce again -  :)

It's about time I posted in this thread! I also recently went on a trip to NYC, and I had the great pleasure of breakfast with Bruce at...I forget the resaurant name! It was such a nice diversion to just sit and talk about life and music in the midst of my busy trip schedule. Good company and good eat!

Some great pics!!

Great photos, which made me nostalgic for my trip to Leiden, where I had the pleasure of meeting the famous two Johans.

Yes, an epic encounter.

The Passion is going to be sung in Fall River in March . . . .

I live in the Chicago area. But due to the job situation it's not quite 100% certain that I will still be here in the spring.

Thanks, Dave!  :D  I had a great time with you all as well!  You two certainly crammed in a huge amount of sightseeing--not to mention FOOD, and a few concerts, too.  (I'm still envious that you got to hear the Takács Quartet, but oh well...just too much to do here on any given night, and I had already committed to go to the Xenakis show, which was terrific.)  Anyway, it was a super evening, and I hope we can do it again sometime.  You have to come back more often; think of all the great music you're MISSING.  >:D

And as I mentioned the other night, how cool is the Internet, making all this possible?   8)

Yes, meeting you was really fun!

After trying to cross a few NY streets, I started talking like Ratso Rizzo in Midnight Cowboy: "Hey, I'm walkin' here, I'm walkin' here!"

We're now back in NC: verdant, low stress, and no decent restaurants.

Did you ever find a Japanese translator, Bruce??

As it turned out, I didn't need one; a Columbia composition student, fluent in Japanese, helped us out.  ;D

Sforzando also had lunch with bhodges a couple of weeks ago.

Enjoyed it very much, but...  (Will try to find some better Chinese food for future lunches.  :-[)

Like hearing about the first two; SO sorry about that last one!  :'(

Ouch. Sorry to hear that.

If anyone is ever in the Nashville area, let me know if you want to get together.

It looks like Bruce is at the centre of quite a social circle. We will have to start to get him to organise our social diaries.

Not too many folk here drop by Gloucestershire.

If anyone has a fetish for taking trips to extremely cold climates (other than Papageno), then give me a shout when you get here!  ;D

I think one of my goals for my last semester of college should be to convince Gurn to come visit.  ;D Maybe if he knew that Rice piano instructor Brian Connelly is playing Beethoven's Op. 111 on an 1825 Graf this Sunday at 4pm, he'd come visit!!  ;D
