Well, I will be the first to reply, since I love your name! If our board changeover had happened a few months later, that might've been my new name the rate I'm going...I totally love Mahler! His symphonies are like this lovely, strangely attractive, black hole.

Yes, MS, I wholeheartedly agree with you, music is the very best thing in this strange big 'ole world. It keeps me going even when I don't want to, it gives me a space to spend time with myself, it can cry with me and rejoice...and it is my constant companion.

Thanks a lot for the warm welcome. I'm going to borrow some of D Minor's words from his Brahms thread and say that Mahler is my "soul mate" composer. There is no other composer who speaks to me more directly or penetratingly.

As for other composers, Bach, Wagner, Schubert, Beethoven, Bruckner, Strauss, Stravinsky, and Schoenberg are among my favorites. I think that if I was forced to pick my top three favorite composers then I would probably pick Bach, Wagner, and Mahler. When it comes to my favorite works though, it becomes more difficult to choose, (this might give me a bit of a headache) and so I think I'll just say that there are quite simply too many works that I love to list them all here.

The man in that painting is none other than Anton Webern about whom Stravinsky once said - Doomed to total failure in a deaf world of ignorance and indifference, he inexorably kept on cutting out his diamonds, his dazzling diamonds, of whose mines he had a perfect knowledge.
