I've got Karajan (BP) and Levine (BP) on cd, as well as Mitropoulos and Barenboim with the ECO on vinyl.  Now I'm looking for a new, digital, preferably SACD recording of this work.  All suggestions welcome!

Rattle on EMI is newish. The recorded sound is great and the playing is deeply felt.

Edit: Seems like I got it confused. The Transfigured night is played by the Artemis Quartet on here and it has nothing to do with Rattle. My bad...

That explains how it could be "deeply felt."   ;D

Back to the original question of M. on SACD, I've seen this one around and wonder if anyone knows if it is any good.

Where did you get the Mitropoulos?

It's neither digital, nor SACD, but the only other one I can think of that you need is Stokowski.

The Mitropoulos is monophonic sound on vinyl.  Apologies because my OP is not clear enough.  The LP is probably an original issue but unfortunately not in the best condition.  It's been played too many times to count.  I inherited the LP from my dad; I suspect he picked it up at the Record Hunter on 57th Street in NYC, which was his favorite store.  Until I was old enough to insist on shopping alone, he would take me there.  We spent hours together looking for music as well as the occasional bargains. sigh.

A big thanks to everyone.  I'm looking at the Slowik and the Stokowski.  The Artemis Quartet is going to wait because I'm more interested in the string orchestra arrangement right now.

Holliger conducting Chamber Orchestra of Europe on Apex is very good (just plain digital). For full assortment of acronyms - SACD, DSD, Etc.. you have recent Mehta / Bavarian State on Farao. I haven't heard that, but his earlier LAPO recording was quite good and his current concerts with VPO show that he hasn't lost the feel for the piece. There is sample at Farao site:

There is live performance with VPO on Music & Arts.

You mean the corner of 42nd street and 5th Avenue?  I only noticed it was gone this fall.

No, I mean the one on West 57th Street near Carnegie Hall.  It was shut down sometime in the late 1970s.  I guess you are too young to remember it.

It was something of an august institution, having opened in 1945, and for years it occupied a spot a few doors down from Carnegie Hall, with opera stars among its customers.

Btw, the 42nd St. store has been gone since 1992.  You really need to wake up and get with the times! ;)

It was recorded in stereo.  It's still available on CD from Japan, but it's an expensive CD with no coupling, very odd.
coupled with what BabelFish tells me is "The fantastic tune due to the subject of Tarisu".

(I'm pretty sure the one on Urania is a bootleg from the Lp.)

However, you could probably find it cheaply on vinyl again.

EDIT: I've uploaded a transfer from an Odyssey Lp.  Lightly declicked with ClickRepair.  Variable bit rate MP3 ~ 224K (lame "extreme" preset)

Let me know if you'd prefer FLAC.
