Wovon man nicht sprechen kann, darüber muss man schweigen

Right. I had listened to the Florestan/hyperion. Now also to the Jean Paul and Altenberg. Without revisiting the Florestan Trio, I think of these 3 Jean Paul are the best; they have better contrast and more passion/romanticism.
Altenberg offer a very lyrical and slow first movement that doesn't reall convince me; they seem better in the Fantasy pieces op.88 and canons op.56 (didn't listen to Trios 1+2).

Worth hearing the op 47 Piano Quartet with Ney and Trampler etc. It's good I think, bouncy when it needs to be, but not annoyingly or uncouthly so.

Tremendous performance of the op 35 Kerner Lieder from Hasselhorn and Middleton. Really lovely Auf das Trinkglas eines verstorbenen Freundes.

I didn't realise until I read the blurb that Schumann had a song writing frenzy in 1840 - I remember something similar happened to Wolf.

Everything I've heard from Hasselhorn has been impressive - he's top of the lieder tree IMO.

Der lächelnde Schatten

I've got to say I've been enjoying this set immensely:

A totally wild op 41/1 from The Lindsays on this BBC Music Mag CD - strange sound, live,  probably truthful.  It has changed my view of the music for ever. It blows your wig off.

I don't know, the guy in the top left photo still seems to have a wig attached!

Oh wow. Quite right. I didn't notice it.

I'm really enjoying Barbara Hendricks's refined and strong approach to the Mignon cycle op 98a.  Roland Pöntinen is perfect as far as I can hear. I think the music is top tier Schumann.

Fabulous liederspiele from Shirai, Protschaka, Hölle etc. Streaming but hard to find, you have to persevere!
