Did you guys in the US ever receive an Amazon package out of the box? Today I received two books and a box of CDs in only the shrink-wrap and cardboard backing. Because of this, the edges of the books are beat up. Very weird. Who is responsible for this outrage? Amazon or the post office?

Makes me not want to order things through the mail.  :-\

I remember receiving an e-mail from Amazon not long ago about their plans to switch to packaging with less paper material. It said it was being done for environmental purposes, but there is cost cutting embedded to it, no doubt.

Hm. Hopefully  this isn't their solution.  ;D

I've always gotten my Amazon stuff in good condition, always in the boxes, so it must be an external problem. Take advantage of Amazon's refunds and replacements policy - you can return items for any reason with free potage. I've done it several times, one time when I received a book with a small dent, just to get a mint one.
Peanut butter, flour and sugar do not make cookies. They make FIRE.

Thanks. Maybe I'll check into it after I see how they respond.

I've received a couple orders from Amazon which I'm sure they shipped in a box but which arrived to me without one, just the plastic-wrapped contents. I've gotten many smashed-in boxes as well, so I assume someone somewhere along the line just removed a damaged box and shipped it on (the address is still visible on the packing list).

Yep, that's what happened.

Apparently, they're sending me all new stuff, but I never told them that everything was damaged, just the books. Oh, well. They're going to get an opened package of perfectly good CDs. (Or else they'll charge me again for them!)

Well, we order a LOT from Amazon and to date all has comed 'boxed' - can't imagine the shrink-wrapped items out of the box easily surviving damage; plus, their argument about the environment is somewhat incredulous to me!  ::)  P.S., I recycle all of my cardboard boxes, anyway!
