Ha, I'm assuming this is Previn again. Nice; especially his intros (on both vids).

No secret who this is, but I like the version

Don't think I've heard a Miles track called "The Mask" before, even on other live sets from this time.

Originally from rom the Jack Johnson sessions, it appears.

I introduced my jazz loving uncle to Chet Baker over thanksgiving.  A nice mellow tone and voice.

He always gave me the impression Charlie Brown on vocals but the horn playing was always fascinating. Classic doc on him is Let's Get Lost. Worth a viewing.

Also subject of a fictional film Born to be Blue, and involved in one of Bill Moody's jazz mysteries, Looking for Chet Baker.

Really like Ethan Hawke but don't see him as Chet Baker. Different sensibility. Doesn't strike me as a jazz guy.  What do I know? I'll give it a go. Nice, free version on tubi. Put the Moody book in my queue. Thanks.

Not 'Live-Evil'?

EDIT: Nice find the recording. I stumbled upon a track from Live-Evil it sounded like, but also BB is being played. What made you think of The Mask?

I actually saw the film in a cinema when released, because the mother of female co-star Carmen Ejogo is a local who I (slightly) know. It's OK but not great.

The Bill Moody books are fun from the jazz angle but not blockbuster detective stories. I read two or three of them years ago, and should read the rest.

Man, I hung in for ten minutes, even after it was clear that Hawke was way too uptight to play Baker, and despite the high octave impression the cadences weren't right, on and on... plus with lines like "Who do you like better, me or Miles?" I knew I was in for cringe weather.

I quickly put on Tavernier's Round Midnight to get the taste out of my mouth.  :D Always good to hear Gordon (hey, there's a Chet Baker appearance on the soundtrack).  :P

New Moon Daughter Cassandra Wilson (1995, Blue Note)

One of her best albums; Wilson's husky vocals and spare band provide an atmosphere of an intimate club set.

Years ago I used this CD to check the sound quality of my sound set when I was swapping tubes, cables, played with spikes/vibration control, placement of components, and so on.
