Title: (North Carolina's) Dan Locklair (1949 - )

-Locklair was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1949
-played the organ professionally as a teen
-attended Mars Hill University in NC; obtained masters in music at Union Theological Seminary in NY; finally a doctrate from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY
-taught at Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY 1973-1982,
-Presbyterian church musician in Binghamton
-became professor and composer-in-residence at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC in 1982
-gave recitals at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, St. Thomas Church, and St. Patrick's Cathedral, all in New York.
-a section of Rubrics was performed at the funeral of President Ronald Reagan in 2004
-first American composer invited to have his music performed at the Czech Festival of Choral Arts
-long list of awards includes an American Guild of Organists Composer of the Year honor in 1996, a Friedheim Award from New York's Kennedy Center, and multiple ASCAP awards
-his music has been performed by major orchestras and choirs across the U.S. and the Helsinki Philharmonic, the BBC Singers, and the Elmer Iseler Singers of Toronto, etc.
-Hail the Coming Day was commissioned to celebrate the joining of the North Carolinian cities of Winston and Salem into today's Winston-Salem
