Hi everyone,

My name is Henri and I'm a 29-year old man from Helsinki, Finland.

I'm a passionate listener of classical but also equally jazz, alternative kinds of rock and weird electronic and improvised music.

Besides enjoying my dad playing Mozart on the stereo as a child, I think I came into classical music via some of the modernist composers. Feldman, Bartok and Schnittke sounded interesting and different and made me pay attention.

Nowadays I'm into many different kinds of classical music, maybe with a preference towards early music and modern classical. I'm generally into more understated and tonally ambiguous music, which is why romanticism era composers often lose me.

Here are a few of my all time favorite composers off the top of my head:

Josquin
Bach
Feldman
Cage
Gesualdo
Haydn
Radigue
Scelsi
Xenakis
Ligeti
Lutoslawski
Martinu
Mozart
Sibelius
Nono
Ockeghem
Dufay
Faure
Bacewicz

Hello, Henri, and welcome. That's quite a nice list of composers! Happy to see Ligeti, Xenakis, and Martinu—three of my favorites, but I like works by all of those you mentioned.

PS, I'm a big fan of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, and have been watching their livestreams, which are superb. Also like Susanna Mälkki, though it looks like she is leaving at the end of the season.

Have a good time here, and let us know what you're listening to.

Greetings Henri!
I already replied to your post in the Vaughan Williams thread.
I have good friends in Finland and had a very nice holiday in Finland in 2013.
Along with another member here I have even ordered a CD of the Finnish composer Salmenhaara from the 'Fuga Music Shop' in Helsinki!
I like many Finnish composers and not just Sibelius including Madetoja, Klami, Kokkonen, Rautavaara and Englund.

That's nice to hear :) I haven't really looked into these lesser known Finnish composers myself, I need to get to it!
