Quote from: DavidW on July 20, 2023, 02:18:19 PMIt is funny that I see record shops but not cd stores!
In my area, they are normally a combo--though they don't always carry new CDs.  My favorite store in the area has about half and half plus DVDs (all used).  They are happy to order new CDs and LPs for people.  For Record Store Days, they will order a bunch of new LPs too.

And is this because you think the cat is badly photographed, or just because you haven't attempted to understand why they chose a picture of a cat?

In terms of artwork style, this album seems to be released on the Tzadik label. Definitely, the label has released some great albums both in terms of content and artwork too, but a lot of their output is nothing more than sonic junk. First of all, countless recordings by Mr Zorn himself.

I was reminded of the legend of Saint Hubertus.
But, again, I cannot say that this "bad" or silly design.
At the Lawo website one can read the booklet. No explanations are given about the choice of the photographs .
Possibly , "(herd)STUDY", by Smørdal has inspired the art directors he..."has attempted to explore different ways in which the musicians and the pitches can behave like a "flock".

Lawo cd

I'm convinced we can all find really bad cd / LP design!

Isn't that his cat?  I'm thinking of a picture that I saw some time ago of I believe that it was of Wuorinen and his cat?

p.s.  Edit:  And I see that others have already found the picture that I was going to post! lol :D

Well, I owe it to him to at least check out some of his music--as he is a cat lover!  ;)

This is the info from Wuorinen's web-site:

"His Lepton for celesta, harp, and piano is named after one of his cats. A lepton is a subatomic particle; Lepton, the cat, was so named because she is herself small, and was frequently "leapt-upon" by an older cat. Whether, like the subatomic particle her namesake, she has a spin of 1/2 and is not subject to strong force is open to interpretation."

lol  ;D I can't find that work on youtube; however, there are some other works there.  Currently trying out his "New York Notes for Ensemble".

By the way, do you have any pets?

I love cats and dogs, but we can't afford to have pet at home. We moved constantly between Ukraine and other places before the war, mostly India but not exclusively, and will probably resume travelling after the war is over.

That wasn't my question. My question is whether the original poster thought the artwork was poor, or whether the original poster yet again hadn't done the work of understanding why the album had that picture.

Because if the latter this is yet again a case of other people being able to figure out why the album has a picture of a cat.

The thread is not titled "explain this artwork to me because I can't google". And I know for a fact that I'm not the only one who's getting really tired of a couple of people using the thread that way.
