Quote from: absolutelybaching on April 16, 2023, 07:22:22 AMI am impressed at the fact that all those whose casual sexism created this problem in the first place are now so desperately keen to regard the matter as something that should all just be swept past and treated as of no consequence. Janus would be feeling entirely at home, right about now.
To be fair, OrchestralNut seemingly left because of the photo thing, not because of the larger issue at hand:

Edit: let's be charitable and assume Florestan deleted that comment because deleting it was the right thing to do.

Yeah, but my point was that the casual sexism thing provoked the mods into deleting an album cover, and that's what triggered him.
If we hadn't had 'poor girl can't fit into the dress' posts, we wouldn't have CD covers being deleted in the first place, I feel fairly confident.
I don't criticise the mods, by the way. It's a tricky ship to steer. But whatever the merits of the mod decisions, had the situation never arisen in the first place, they wouldn't need to have even been considered.

Oh, my God! Here we go again!

What do you mods think about this lame and sorry excuse of a wretched attempt to revive a dead horse?

Florestan

Quote from: absolutelybaching on April 16, 2023, 07:39:38 AMImpressively quick to delete, but instructive that you, so full of concern that no-one should leave, ever felt able to post the below.

Is it OK to post this such that I could read it, but then delete it so you could pose as a 'voice of reason'?

How's that sense of consistency going for you?

I am not ashamed of that. I still stand by it.

Yeah, not quite what you originally posted, was it?

Regarding dead horses, my point made here, in this thread, was precisely that those who trivialised casual sexism are really rather desperate to regard it, and have it generally regarded, as a dead horse -but that some of us, at least, do not regard it as such. Your comment merely serves to prove my point.

He left because of what he considered too strict moderating -  not because of the pictures or comments which caused this moderating.

Brahmsian = OrchestralNut

Quote from: Brahmsian on April 14, 2023, 11:06:01 AMInterestingly, I might be leaving for the exact opposite reason.  I think the excessive and heavy handed prudishness is absolutely ridiculous and overboard.

I also think the moderation was a bit too strict - the matter was simply too insignificant - but moderators have a difficult job. No matter what they do, someone is going to complain about it.

This seems fair.

Honestly? My main thought is: we mods will do a better job when people don't make us do our jobs every day!

The moderation team has reminded all members about the rules of the forum. For those who may have missed it, the post can be read here: https://www.good-music-guide.com/community/index.php/topic,32264.msg1507967.html#msg1507967.

The aim of that post is to avoid this kind of situations from arising again, having taken into consideration the input of all posters. There is no intention of sweeping anything under the carpet, and what happened in the past can unfortunately not be changed.

Now, I trust that all members will understand that continuing this discussion ad nauseam, throwing blame around, calling each other names and using foul language is a sterile exercise, which will only increase tensions and unpleasantness on the forum. We all know that being proven right (or proving others wrong,) on the internet is futile and can drag on eternally. Can we move on, then, and start talking about music (or other issues in The Diner)?

Thanks!

It is precisely because this thread is not in the 'general' areas that I felt it legitimate to post a two-sentence observation (back at the end of page 211), which didn't even mention anyone specifically by name, let alone call anyone names.

The "level of unpleasantness" is rather better evidenced by the two posts I received in consequence of making that observation.

Even-handedness does not seem appropriate at that point, but the moderators must moderate as they deem appropriate.

I've raised the issue that certain members here have no problem with exhibiting and condoning casual sexism. I can do no more. I'm done posting on this site until that issue is addressed, which I sense it won't be.

Thanks!  Using that emoticon is an alternative to our own: I just need to work on the size!  ;D

I see Florestan posting today as if telling another poster to eff-off four times means nothing.
It tells me all I need to know.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

The matter has been dealt with both here and perhaps more importantly in the other thread that was linked to. What exactly are you looking to happen beyond that? A ban?

Okay then.

I am extremely sad to see @absolutelybaching (Howard) gone! In my eyes he was a very valuable member, erudite and a fine human being. He has helped me with a dozen things, especially with the Bach (Suzuki) cantates images. His choice of music was always a surprise, and his vast knowledge of music, and literature, is admirable. Always choose his words with care, and was very honest in his approach. I for one will miss him very much...just sayin!

I totally agree with you Harry.
I had some very nice personal exchanges with Howard and, as you say, thought of him as a very nice person, not to mention the wonderful username and Muppet avatar.
I hope he returns.

Yes that made me smile every time I saw it. And I sincerely hope he will return, for such members as him are sorely needed on GMG.

That's sad.  :(  When you search for him on the Members list, it shows a photo of someone walking away; underneath it says "Thanks for all the fish".  18 posts apparently remaining.

I hope that he changes his mind.
