Thank you for that
Quote from: Pohjolas Daughter on Today at 06:31:34 AMI found out a little bit of information about the work (see link below).  Apparently, the composer had initially called it "Uncle Tom".  No idea as to why he had renamed it to "Uncle Teddy" when it was published.  https://www.rundel.de/en/article/uncle_teddy/MVSR2323

PD

Thank you for that; it was an interesting tidbit!

It is because he is trying to rank his personal #11-20, not his top 10, and the mono version is already in his top 10.

Quote from: Pohjolas Daughter on Today at 10:09:08 AMYour first comment had also crossed my mind...wondering how much it might deter people.  We classical music lovers are a determined group however!  8)  ;)

Your second point is an interesting one.  Also, is there a way to block downloading of pages/topics/threads?  Would that be possible?  Just throwing out some ideas.

I seem to remember on a different classical music site I would occasionally be told that I had to wait a few seconds before hitting like, or something similar.

I bet most of us would agree on Boult and Barbirolli.  It is the third one where the fight begins!

I agree with Todd.  I thought they were stupid for going out of their way to topple a rock formation... but seeing it on national news was odd.  You would have thought they defaced Mt. Rushmore or hunted an endangered species to bring it to the attention of such a large audience.

On repeat:

SQ #4 is great imo and #16 is very good.  The fourth is angry, the sixteenth is more subtle.  Both possess a pervasive melancholy.

My favorite listen all week was Dausgaard's LvB Eroica, always love that recording.  So driven and forceful!

Well, I guess I cannot argue with Science (?).  ;D

When I return home, I will look into Mr. Sonoda!

Quote from: Atriod on Today at 07:02:17 AMSonoda's Evica cycle is extremely good, I'd have to think about this some more to be certain, but I'm pretty sure it would make my top 10 cycles.

For some unknown reason Todd used Backhaus' stereo recording for comparison. The earlier mono recording is generally more successful.

I agree that Sonoda is good and well may be among my top ten cycles too. The many excellent cycles available are difficult to rank precisely. But Backhaus' mono is in my top two, Kempff's mono cycle being the other one.

If you read Todd's evaluations closely it's obvious that he first and foremost is led by his taste, like all of us.
