Of all the available complete recordings this complete set is for me the best, be it for its artistic merits, or the research Hogwood put into this project, the pristine performance and excellent sound, it all boils down to perfection. Take for instance the Fourth movement of No. 21, is it ever better done, with such precision?

I was just listening to the Hillier recording because of your post. I like the harp playing a lot, but I just find Hillier's way of singing too forceful and declamatory for my taste.

However, every cloud has a silver lining, and I moved on to the Rudel songs on the first CD in this set, sung by  people with higher voices, much lighter approach  -- and it's more my cup of tea this afternoon.

Going to see Wunderkind Klaus Mäkelä conduct this at the weekend.  

I think Thomas Larcher is a really agreeable musician -- I've not heard that symphony, but I've heard his songs and I've heard him play in music by Holliger and Schoenberg -- all good.

I discovered this composer and recording after reading about him in the new issue of International Pianist. He lived from 1927-2021 and drew influences from Scriabin, Hindemith, and a host of British composers. I'm enjoying via Qobuz--it's the equivalent of 5 CDs, so it will a while to finish.
