Title: Handel: Il Trionfo
Post by: Harry Collier on April 11, 2007, 03:04:36 AM
I spent yesterday evening quite entranced with two and a half hours of Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno (Handel). My favourite line up of Emmanuelle Haïm, Natalie Dessay, and friends. A new release on Virgin (2 CDs); well played, well sung, well recorded. What music! A new hit every six minutes. Probably one of my top 10 CDs of all time. Handel, a dedicated cut-and-paste man, re-used many of the numbers in this score over and over again, but the 1707 composition comes up bright and sparkling. Essential listening, particularly for anyone who is not yet convinced that Handel was one of the great composers.
