Plenty of cats in here. A lot of cat lovers, me included. Time for a wee post with pics and stories about your moggie.
All cats in my life past and present get called "Wootz" or "Wooteez". I did have one cat called "Smokey Wooteez Delphi Tooteez". I don't know why. Its a feline thing. Cats are the masters of luxury and outdoor violence.
I love cats, I'm getting one next week as my last Wooteez died.
I might get this one:

I have never cared much for cats. Not that I disliked them, but I just didn't understand why people would choose a cat when they could have a dog. I had heard tales of cats that related to people like dogs, but hadn't experienced it. To me they seemed utterly self-absorbed and self-seeking little princesses who were far more trouble than they're worth--like trophy wives or Paris Hilton.
However, we now have a cat who has owned my heart for nearly ten years. Chloe started out as a tough little critter who didn't care much for people but would rather be out catching birds and mice, unlike her sister who liked nothing better than to curl up in a lap--anyone's lap. Chloe turned up her nose at everyone's efforts to hold her or pet her and didn't seem to like people at all, except for me. For some reason she took to me right away, maybe because I didn't like cats any more than she liked people, or maybe just because I was usually the one who fed her.
In many respects Chloe acts like a dog, greeting me at the door when I come home, following me around the house, curling up on the floor at my feet when I'm reading or on the PC, and she even comes when she's called (most of the time, that is). She's still a fine hunter and likes to share her success. Over the years she's brought me mice, frogs, crickets, and an assortment of small birds, including a live hummingbird once. Thank God we were outside when she laid that at my feet. Thinking it dead, I picked it up to dispose of it and was surprised to feel its little heart still beating. The poor little bird must have been paralyzed with fear. While I was looking it over for damage the bird suddenly shook itself, stood for a moment in my cupped hands, and then launched itself into flight and buzzed away, apparently none the worse for wear.
Too bad Chloe doesn't like water. With a mouth that soft she would probably make a fine retriever. I'd like to see her trying to carry a Canadian goose more than twice her size!

When I was younger my gran had a cat called Foxy (being ginger of course). We shared many of the same interests: sleeping, walking on top of walls, eating meat. We were great pals! He would give me an eskimo kiss if I got up close. He was so sweet and friendly, always looked like he had a cheeky smile on his face and never sulked, not even when soggy! :o
As much as I love dogs, I have more respect for the independence of cats. They know as well as we do that they could fine well survive entirely by themselves. But why would they bother when they can be fed, kept warm and still leave to carry out their own business as they please? To use a phrase that sounds like it should have been coined by a cat, 'why have a dog and bark yourself?'. ;D

Purrfectly summed up. A cats character becomes clear form it's independence and bird mauling antics in the garden. They are so divinely intelligent that people used to worship them.

I agree so much with what DavidRoss said above ;D
My 15 year old cat-Suki- has never gone outside because I live in a top floor apartment/flat but it is fairly large with big rooms and plenty of space to roam about. She reacts with me in exactly the same way as David's Chloe, greeting my return home, following me about, sleeping on my bed.

21 is a grand old age for any cat. My Abby's still got 16 years left at that rate!

Well, at least there's an entertainment value every once in a while. My old Woots was a real scratcher, it wanted to fight me when I stroked it. It's daft claws got stuck on my fleece top many a time. It was a naughty Woots.

Another active day! Charlie (age 14). My cousin's cat is 20. I guess we are lucky - our neighbour's sweet three year old orange coloured cat (who was always in our garden) was run over and killed a week or two ago.

There's more drama in it being upside down Jeffrey. Poor Charlie looks like he's on his way out of the duvet and fighting against being groundward bound. I now MUST find pics of my silly Woots to post here, because I started the thread and haven't contributed anything! :-[

That happened to us too often when I was growing up, and now that I have cats of my own, I have built them this run in the backyard. The second photo shows you how they leave the house via a cat flap which leads into an exit box, then there's a tunnel under a garden path that leads them into the run proper. The photos are from "Opening Day" three years ago.

IF this is a reference to my cat in the photograph...I should just point out that she is NOT as fat as she appears to be!
She is 15 and a half years old, is not overfed but has always been a house cat(I live in an apartment/flat) and does not, therefore, get outside.

They do not help me in a CD espionage caper, but they do provide valuable insight as to how your music is organised, how large a part it plays in your life, how you have an interest in art which extends to English classics, your ability to adapt listening pleasure between analogue, digital and other formats, where the CD's are (CD's which are still under review or used most frequently) and where the CD's are which can only be reached by ladder (most infrequently played), and the photos reveal that you are able to crouch comfortably when rummaging your CD's which have yet to be classified, or yet to be arranged in some way.

R, a fuller report will be issued when I get the forensics from Tayside Police, including a full list of what Colin listens to by using an UHD (Ultra High Definition) device to probe the photographs, and what his cat has been eating for it to live so long.
Good grief...I am speechless :o
So much analysis and deduction from two photographs! :)
Well, John, you are correct in almost all of your conclusions :) The only one which is awry is that the cds I listen to less frequently are the ones most inaccessibly placed. My collection is arranged in strictly alphabetical order by composer. Thus the first cd on the top shelf left of the alcove is Komei Abe's Symphony No.1(Naxos). The alcove contains all composers from Abe to Alfred Hill. With Paul Hindemith onwards the cds are stored in the wooden towers and the shelves. Unfortunately, from Richard Strauss onwards the cds have outgrown my existing shelving and are therefore piled up on top. Vaughan Williams cds make up one entire pile ;D Oh....the total number of cds-as of today-is 2629.
I know that I need more shelves but I have been putting that off until the room is re-decorated(which will be done....?) :)
And...since this thread is supposed to be about Cats ;D.......that is another smashing photo of your new 'Woots' :)
My boss sent this to me, I hope you enjoy it.

Now I understand what 'woots' means! What a beautiful kitten - I wish you (John) much fun with him (her?) Your analysis from Colin's CD collection sounds as perceptive as the one you did from my books, caught in the backround of the photo of my own nearly 15 year old woots, Charlie.

;D He's a savage woots alright. I totally love the wee thing.
I have applied for him to join the 'Wooteez' which as you know is the military branch of feline life. He sports the right stripes and is likely to make his mark in frontline fighting, protecting the perimeter of the back yard.
This will give him access to (talking of Panthers) Panther Tanks, Tooth Extenders and the latest technology in Sharp Claw routines.
I'll keep reporting from time to time on his debriefing from the backyard frontline... ;)

I now have a flea free SON OF WOOTS, the son of the Woots pictured above. This Woots (called Woots 3) is by far the cleanest most comforting wee Woots I have had. Woots 3 will go on to be a big Tom cat and a fabulous friend. Here is Woots 3, son of Woots 2 pictured at the bottom as a kitten. It was transported to Glasgow from Liverpool by a friend.

We have two cats. The 15 year old is a world class mouser still. The 3 year old, who has me trained, is a bit tubby. She tries but almost never catches anything. She stalks birds, which is pretty hilarious as she never has the remotest chance of catching one.

Saddened to hear that tigers can catch the corona virus from their asymptomatic caregivers; zoos are upping their precautions for cats and primates (heard today). I believe that there are now six tigers who were infected at the Bronx Zoo. From what I understand, not badly and are improving.
Nice that zoos are offering live cams....and a big thank you to all of the caregivers who are continuing to look out for the animals whilst the zoos (and most of society) are shut down.

Hello accmacmus,
I remember last summer seeing an artist's work (at a monthly gallery artists' exhibitions) who used that kind of effect with plants. I think though that she also did some prints in other colors? I was quite impressed by her work. Will see if I can find out her name and see what kind of processes she used.
You're not alone in wishing that they knew more about photography....and wished that they (meaning at least 'I') could take a decent picture! ;) :)
Best wishes,
PD

Quite amusing...thanks! I suspect that the cat upstaged the vicar there. Hope that vicar didn't then pour the milk into his tea?! That said, I suspect that I've shared more than one glass of water with a cat or two during the course of my lifetime.

Oh, too funny! I read that story yesterday! Good of the author to share their story...hard though it was. Towards the [young] end of my last cat's life, I realized that someone else recently started feeding him! Not good for several reasons: 1) he gained about a pound in one month = 10% of his weight!; 2) He must have been being fed some sort of 'kitty crack' = inexpensive but tasty dry food, so that he would no longer eat his special food which helped to correct and then prevent dental disease; 3) and could have lead to other issues (like she described)--if he hadn't been hit by a car first. :( I'm sure that the person meant well, but they were creating problems instead. I tried several times to put a collar around his neck, but the ones that they recommend (the breakaway type), he kept managing to get them off of his neck. He was microchipped, however, with up to the date contact info re moi, the owner.

I think that Oliver is one of the few names that my wife and I agreed on if we had a son (which we didn't) so, we gave the name to our cat instead - I think that it suits him. I love the cartoons, especially the computer keypad one. I was just watching a live TV interview on the BBC News about the cancellation of the A (Advanced) Level exams in school next Summer. A young school student was being interviewed and her cat kept on making an appearance. The Newsreader reassured her that pets were always welcome on the News!

Oh, my! Are they both yours? :)
How much does Mr. Spunky weigh and how long is he?
PD
We have 3 cats and 2 dogs, all of them rescues. The dogs are Satos from Puerto Rico.
The Spunkster was about 36 pounds when we last weighed him. I'm not sure how long he is. He is somewhat beachball shaped, so circumference might be a better measurement.
Here he is in a whiskey barrel planter.
The two Biden dogs have been making the news (Champ and Major)...pets back in the White House! And one of them is a rescue from a Delaware shelter (Major). Yeah!
Apparently, Jill Biden (pardon, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden ;D ) wants to get a cat too! :) Hurrah!

I found this online: a very detailed but interesting article on Churchill and his growing affection for cats and the ones that he either met and/or adopted over the course of his lifetime...including this cat. Thanks for that photo Jeffrey!

Alas, Churchill didn't (yet) know that you don't just come up to a cat and go to pat it on its head; see cat's body language.

We've always had dogs in our house - always. Cats came and went. Always outdoor cats. Which is why two of them never came back :-[, including Abby, our last one. She was surely eaten by a nasty critter (a pekan?) when we were at the cottage. There is a large wooded area just across the road - irresistible hunting grounds for an elite mouser. So cute ! We had such a cat, black and furry. His name was Zorro. When outside he was invisible, you'd never see him. If I stepped out he'd come out from a nearby bush to get petted.

On Sunday night I was just settling down to watch 'Line of Duty' with my wife when the cat strolled in with a bird in his mouth. The bird then escaped and went into the under-stairs cupboard. I had to take everything out to locate the bird, which I then took to the local animal welfare centre. He/she was given some antibiotic medicine but should recover. Cost me £10! This was unusual because our cat is quite lame, having been born with a deformity in his legs. Nice relaxing evening! ::)

Either a sparrow or a starling PD. My wife said it was (hopefully still is) a starling but the rescue centre lady said it was a sparrow. Difficult to tell from inside the cat's mouth! I recently discovered a few feathers in our dining room - but no bird. I now know that our cat consumes them completely. I read somewhere that if they were bigger they would eat us as well - a terrifying thought for a cat lover! :o

He's just an average tabby moggie, I think, but he has a nicely pointed face and 'target' rings on his sides. Unfortunately, he had to have all his teeth removed pretty soon after we picked him up in 2014 (when he was already about 2): he had badly inflamed gums. But it doesn't seem to have stopped him enjoying life (or food!) and he is definitely 'of the tribe of Tiger'! He will sit quietly on my study desk enjoying whatever music is playing for hours on end, but he cannot stand Messiaen (no matter the composition) for some reason and will always leave if any of it starts. He is otherwise of impeccable taste!
Poor kid! I had to have dental work (including a couple of extractions) on one of my cats years ago. I soon thereafter learned how to brush their teeth (with a special enzymatic toothpaste)--not exactly fun but doable. With my last one (who I had adopted as a kitten), he ended up developing a bad case of gingivitis (even though he was still a kitten!) and I switched him over to a special dental hard food which helped a lot (along with brushing). Problem went away!
Glad that he enjoys your musical tastes--apart from Messiaen. Perhaps he enjoys real bird songs more? ;)

p.s. You'll find that there are a number of cat lovers on this forum. :)

Well, when I tried to google that story further (couldn't), I ran across stories of cats saving their owners' lives too....In any event, so very sorry to hear of that person's house burning down...hope that everyone (including all pets) got out alive? And, yes, cats will knock over things...particularly when they are being chased by another animal or are startled. :(

It seems that the owner was asleep. Now why was he sleeping while there was a lit kerosene lantern burning away? ??? I'm glad though that his dog woke him up.

I bought this "coffee table" book of cat/kitten photos for my wife. Each page is devoted to a single cat in a charming pose and given a name reflecting its perceived personality. All cats resided in a Humane Society shelter in Kentucky. All fun dissipates, however, in the end pages which describe the fates of the animals. Most were happily adopted; but some (with cute names no less!) were euthanized because of physical abnormality or disease like feline leukemia. Not much of a feel-good book after all and my wife is upset with me.
Oh dear! However, your intention was good.

At a quick glance, it looks to be a nice shelter. On their "About Us" page, they state:
"Woodford Humane Society takes in all animals in need, regardless of their health, age, or breed. We never put a time limit on how long a pet can stay with us.
With no government funding, we rely solely on donations and private contributions to care for approximately 1,000 animals each year. We are proud to maintain a placement rate of 95% or higher – almost triple the national average."
No shelter, alas, is in strictest of terms a no-kill shelter (even the best of them). For various reasons they do at times have to euthanize animals. :( Perhaps consider donating it to a local library? Or ask your vet where they think it could be best made use of? I think that it could be a valuable tool to help convince those who don't want to spay or neuter their pets to seriously rethink it and also to encourage others to adopt from shelters or maybe even think about volunteering there or donating? And the importance too of microchipping your pet(s) and keeping your contact information up to date!
Yes, books about animals can oftentimes be troubling to read, but I'd encourage you and your spouse to try to take heart from the inspirational and successful stories and find comfort in knowing that all of the animals that passed through their hands were loved and cared for--including those that had to be euthanized.
Best wishes,
PD

I've been told (perhaps Karl or another member who knows Russian can confirm) that the Cyrillic character which sounds G is used to transliterate H as well. Hence Begemot/Behemoth.
Ah...so it possible in Russian you'd have the meaning of the biblical monster alongside the meaning of the animal as you were reading the name.y friend, while Russian, was not a Bible reader and may have been unaware of that.

Love it!
I remember well the often constant efforts to retrieve the toys--often having to use a yardstick to flush them out, taking off the protective grate at the bottom of the fridge. That and having to pull out the metal drawer at the bottom of my stove (heavy from roasting pans)...take it off of the track that it fits into and checking under there too--then having to put heavy drawer back onto its tracks. ::)
But, would I do it all again? Yes! Loved watching one of them in particular enjoying the 1) chase the toy mouse or whatever around the kitchen floor...batting away at it, 2) then playing stash it away under the fridge but still in reach to be able to retrieve it, then 3) alas, can no longer play that game as they had shoved it too far under fridge or stove!

Margaret Getchell LaForge was a cousin of RH Macy who was for a number of years a senior executive in what was then a one store enterprise. She contributed a number of things to the company's history (including its logo) and had a thing for having cats photographed in human clothes and poses. (Supposedly they were dosed with whiskey to keep them placid.)
Here's an example.

Yes, he does look very fox-like (for a cat anyway). :D
Are you sure that it's his signature at the bottom and not someone just writing what it was a photo of? What does it say after "& Foxy"....looks like his something or other starting with an "m"?
Would love to have that print in any event...perhaps Ursula wrote that underneath the picture?

I have not watched the video and have no intention of doing so. It was very difficult at the London Stadium last night. With the football world and beyond demanding Zouma must not play, Moyes chose to pick him. We won a close (boring) game 1-0 and Zouma being one of our best players made a difference. He has brought shame onto my club though. Clinging to excuses it doesn't compare to the despicable Mason Greenwood but it sure does not feel like it.

A French animal foundation ("30 Millions d'Amis", famous in France for its founder's animal TV programme of the same name in the 70's-80's) is also suing Kurt Zouma for animal cruelty. I don't know how that would work out considering the event occurred in the UK but if it goes through, Zouma could get anything up to 4 years in jail. I have read reports that the French equivalent of the RSPCA (la S.P.A.) was also joining or considering their own the lawsuit.

Yes, I read that. Apparently animal cruelty is seen as a far greater crime in France then UK. I suppose it could mean as Prince Andrew can never set foot in America, Zouma is unable to return home, surely it will not come to that. But I would not be at all surprised if he never plays for his country again.
Zouma should be made to work (unpaid) for an animal charity - what an idiot! Filming the cruelty to his cat in front of his child was inexcusable.

No. you're right PD - it was his brother but I don't think that alters anything. I don't think that Moyes (The West Ham manager) should have selected Zouma to play last week.

And I agree with you that he shouldn't have been picked. How old is his brother by the way? And, yes, still horrible! The thought though of him doing that in front of a probably young child (teaching them that what he was doing was o.k.) felt to me to be
even worse when I initially read your posting. Just my reaction.
I hope that he does work for and with a charity and learns (hopefully) what animals can go through in life...how it damages them...and also more about what animals need in life and how they react to things and people and what it means...and more. From what I understand he had Bengal cats which can be quite the handful (from what I understand they are only a few generations from their half-wild parents as in a domestic cat mated with a wild breed). https://www.wildcatsanctuary.org/education/species/hybrid-domestic/what-is-a-hybrid-domestic/ From that website:
"The Bengal cat breed resulted from cross breeding an Asian Leopard Cat (ALC-Felis bengalensis) with the domestic cat (Felis catus). The first three filial generations (F1 – F3) of these hybrid animals are referred to as the "foundation" generations." The website is for an organization that specializes in wild cat rescues and is apparently being swamped by Bengal owners who weren't prepared to deal with what they had paid for. From what I understand (according to that website) some states allow Bengals...others are more regulated (has to be at least past a certain F generation), etc. I don't know about in the UK. There's a lot of interesting information and thoughts there to think about in any event (about breeding domestic cats with wild cats).
In any event, I hope that the cats find a safe and loving home.

Which is a universal and understandable position, Jeffrey. Moyes is pragmatic, I knew he would pick Zouma. Moyes is right though in saying we have to be careful where this is heading. Zouma did a maronic act but we all need to stop for a moment. With social media the world has become a dangerous place of which Caroline Flack is a prime example. Zouma has stood up in the dressing room and apologised to the players, he is ashamed of what he did and accepts all punishment, of which running out in the King Power Stadium this afternoon will be part.
Many of us have committed a stupid act in our life but thankfully shown forgiveness and given a second chance, but it is far easier for us not being in the public eye. Zouma isn't evil, just stupid. Stupidity is not a valid reason to crucify the guy.

I agree with most of what you are saying, except that I think it's more than stupidity. To derive humor or pleasure from hurting another living creature, while maybe not indicative of pure evil, does betray a troubling character trait that can't be overlooked.

Very good point Lol which I fully respect - especially coming from you. However, Andrew Pierce in his newspaper review the other night described Zouma as a cretin and a moron and, as a cat-lover, I would go along with this. I note that Moyzes (sorry Moyes, I was confusing him with a composer!) says that Zouma is now getting help - which is a good thing and, despite his despicable act, I don't think that Zouma is beyond redemption - I hope not anyway. I did watch the horrible video and it was clear that Zouma was, at least, not trying to kill his cat. I wonder if he (Zouma not the cat) was on drugs. That's what my wife thought. I don't think that this reflects on West Ham at all, although I think that Moyes should still have dropped Zouma for that first match. To continue to play him sends a very poor message to children about what is acceptable behaviour with a cat/dog or any other pet. And yes, although I am not of Christian background 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone' rings very true.

You're a better man than me. I couldn't bring myself to watch that video, and made do with a photo 'still' from it. I still remember a radio broadcast one morning before school, reporting on two school kids who had been caught tying a kitten onto the railway tracks near us. It made me sick to the stomach then, to the point of hating remembering it decades later; and the footballer moron makes me feel precisely the same way now.
I was commenting about it to my next door neighbour, only to be met with, 'Well, people who eat meat can't complain when someone is cruel to animals'. She's vegan, you see. Radically and proselytizingly so, I'm afraid. Any time I mention our mutual neighbour from over the back and his inability to keep pets properly (one of his rabbits froze to death six weeks ago... and this is a mild winter!), she brings up sausages or such like.
I didn't dare to reply that someone that loves animals to the point of not eating them shouldn't be whitewashing specific examples of aniimal cruelty either, because I need to borrow her ladder later this week!
Anyway. To chase away the bad taste, please have a picture of my Harper enjoying some pre-Bedtime Stravinsky and being deeply in love with me (or devising a cunning plan to eat me, I can never be sure with him!)... I hope it's not one I've posted earlier, anyway.
I'd go for the 'deeply in love' explanation of Harper's expression :)
Your neighbours comments aren't very helpful are they? I'm vegetarian, more or less, by default (wife vegetarian, daughter vegan) but at the school where I work I sneak in for a secret meat lunch most weeks. Here is our cat Oliver having another active day:

You are right. Cruelty to a living creature is the pits. I still cannot bring myself to watch the video and if I did any compassion I feel for Zouma I'm sure will be lost. From what I'm hearing this episode is so out of character. He is a popular, or was, figure at the club and beyond. He pulled out of the Leicester game on Sunday at the very last minute during the warm up. The official line is "due to a stomach bug". A club car took him back to London while the game was being played.

Hi PD,
Oliver is slightly lame and was born with a deformity in his legs, this was much more noticeable when he was a kitten than now, but he is less agile than a normal cat. Having said that he now climbs up anything that he wants to and his back legs have compensated. As a kitten, rather than jump down off fences, for example, he would fall off. He's on a special diet (Feline J/D) which helps him. Therefore he only rarely brings in 'presents' for us. Having said that, last week he was sitting most suspiciously by the fridge, so I guessed what must be behind there. I left the humane mousetrap near the fridge and an hour or two later I discovered a vole in the trap, munching through some cheese which I had left there. Having shut Oliver in the house I released the vole at the end of the garden.
I think that Simon's Cat is quite popular here but don't know too much about it.

Very sorry to hear about Oliver's health problems. That was very sweet of you two to adopt him in spite of his problem; I'm glad that he figured out how to compensate for it. :) Must have been heartbreaking though to see him struggle and fall when he was so little though. And a vole inside of your house?! I hadn't heard of that being an issue before now. Was it wise though, considering what I've heard though about the damage that they can do, releasing it into your garden? And after the nice bit of cheese (snack/dinner?) that you left for it, wouldn't it be more likely to come back into your house now? I hope that it doesn't remember how it got in in the first place! :-\
As for Simon, I ran across his animated works on youtube--by accident--at least at my end (youTube would argue otherwise)! They are really quite amusing and sometimes touching too. He really does know cats and what it's like to be a cat owner (He owns something like 4-5?). https://www.youtube.com/user/simonscat

Hi PD - thanks. We weren't aware of Oliver's partial lameness until after we had him - so I can't pretend that it was an act of compassion. When he was a kitten we noticed him limping. It cost me a fortune in vet X-Rays! Anyway, his (rare) condition was diagnosed and the only treatment was a special diet, on which he seems to have thrived.
No sign of Mr or Mrs Vole!

It cost me a fortune in vet X-Rays! Anyway, his (rare) condition was diagnosed and the only treatment was a special diet, on which he seems to have thrived.
No sign of Mr or Mrs Vole!
Anyone who takes such good care of a needy cat and is willing to save the life of vole is compassionate in my book!

One of my first cats was an awesome orange Tabby named Andy. A few days after friends of ours bought a house, the cat came in and went to sleep in their bed. It turned out he belonged to the previous owners and apparently didn't like their new place. (I'm not sure how far away they moved, but he was able to find his way back.) The previous owners didn't want him and my friends couldn't keep him because of allergies, so he came home with me. One of my all-time favorite pets.

Excellent video. Thanks for sharing. I've known of Simon's Cat for around a decade, but you've found the motherlode!
I particularly liked when they were watching TV: the flat ears as they suddenly saw birds was spot on. The 'knowing the snooker ball is about to drop... Oh Hang on!' was also well-observed. And the 'I love my feather' at the end just sums up cats, really, quite perfectly. (I don't know how many hundreds of pounds I've spent on Harper over the years, but his favourite toy is a manky old mouse toy from Tesco, priced £3.99) and a ball of crumpled paper...)
lol So glad to hear that you enjoyed it. I stumbled across it do to it being suggested by the search engines. Love it! He's (and his team) are very talented. Believe that he owns five cats? In any event, he certainly gets them. Also love the action using opposable thumbs! :D And, yes, very often the cheapest (and free) toys are the best. For instance, I used some (not certain what the correct term is) plastic tie (the kind of one that you need to peel off of milk or drink bottles in order to open them) and used to toss them to one cat in particular (getting very good at using the tiny band to make it roll) and she loved chasing after it! Often other kitties loved it too. :)

I've seen a bit of her on youtube before. Interesting to see--and ponder--how much the cat does really understand. :)
By the way, I learned something interesting today: cats in the wild (as in feral cats) don't speak to each other using vocalizations unlike with humans. It's apparently more of a body language thing and scents in the wild. Vocalizations is something that they've learned when they have become someone's pet. Been watching more of Simon's Cats videos on youtube. Besides the fun animations that he's done with his team, he's also done some informative/education types with various people including some who work at a cat humane society. :)

I don't think there's such a thing as really understanding "all the way down", even for humans. We have a bigger vocabulary of words and associated behaviors, but I don't see where there is an additional "meaning" module doing something, though I'm happy to indulge the idea because people think there is mind as something other than a functioning brain. I treat the whole thing as a kind of illusion. I do assume cats don't have that illusion and probably humans didn't either early on.

We've had four cats. None of them did we buy for ourselves. Two black and whites we adopted when their owners, our friends, moved to a small urban house. Later, we took a tabby off a friend's hands because she had a small baby who needed all their attention.
But the last and best, a black kitten who stayed with us for thirteen years, we found miaowing up a tree - whether lost or abandoned, we never discovered. We made lots of inquiries before we decided that he was ours.
I always think black cats are the friendliest of all the colours - not just ours, but black cats in the street etc always seem very friendly.

Sweet-looking kitty! I used to have a cat that would sometimes tap me on the arm--normally when I was opening up her can of wet food. She would rise up on her back legs (standing next to me on the floor) with her front paws up--one on the edge of the counter and one reaching for the wet food and, from what I recall, sometimes tapping me on my arm or hand as if to say "Please, please, I want my wet food!" Made it a bit awkward trying to get the food out of the can, but it was very sweet/cute to see. She was a small gray British shorthair cat.

I know what you mean re the uniforms, but after doing a bit of googling, it appears that the navy also uses camouflage uniforms. Yes, she was a tiny, healthy girl but went downhill fairly quickly this summer. We were fortunate to have her that long. Her siblings all lasted between 17 and 19 years. We kept three from the litter and my sister-in-law took the other two, so we know all of their histories.

We don't know exactly what caused her failing and it would have been too hard on the cat to find out.
Many years ago, the mother was a stray who would visit me every day for food. It was clear she was nursing kittens somewhere, but I had no idea where that might have been. About that time, my sister was looking for a new cat, so the plan was I would take in the stray when I knew the kittens were on their own and bring her to Maine to live with my sister. Unfortunately, she disappeared before than could happen.
Months later, as we came home late on a freezing cold winter night, the stray was back shivering on our driveway. Since it was the weekend, my son and I drove her to her new home in Maine that evening, but had to turn around and go back the next morning when the vet announced the cat was pregnant again and my sister wasn't able to deal with the situation. Chloe (as she was eventually named) had the litter of five that Lunette was part of at our place and finally made it back to Maine where she had the good life she deserved.
My condolences, though twenty years is exceptional. I can only think that she lasted so long because she wanted to.
I hope you'll introduce us to a new pet in sure time. ;)

We still have our behemoth cat "Spunky", but do plan to add to the menagerie. We're thinking we might need to go with a kitten because I'm not sure the Spunkster and the satos would welcome a grown cat into the clan. It's a pretty tight-knit group, but with a house as old as ours, we like having multiple cats to deter unwelcome visitors.

I thought that I'd take a break from my onerous domestic chores to do some research into the Earl of Southampton's cat who famously kept him company during his imprisonment in the Tower of London and was immortalised in a portrait of the Earl. The cat bears a remarkable resemblance to my childhood cat, and I like to think that he/she was an ancestor:

Touch the nose and say "boop". Yeah, I don't particularly get that either, but my Harper quite warmed to it over time.
I don't know why a cat's nose holds a particular fascination for me, but it does!
Side note, apropos nothing: I have started feeding the local squirrel population (greys only, I'm afraid, but I don't care), and one of them recently got clobbered by a car, much to my distress when I came home from a walk to discover it, stiff, in the middle of the road. I'm afraid I picked it up, hoping it was injured not dead, and thus discovered squirrel noses are identical in feel to cat ones.
I'll admit that their noses and (paw pads) are very sweet. :)
Sorry to hear about your squirrel friend.

Quote from: absolutelybaching on December 04, 2022, 03:43:20 AMMark Twain, by the looks of things. Wasn't aware he was a kitten fanatic, though!
Yes, it's of Mark Twain (who apparently was a major cat fan; so much so that when he traveled he
rented kittens--as he couldn't bring his own cats along with him)! I've found a number of photos of him with his kittens or cats. He also was a dog fan (Shush). :)
I love this quote: "If animals could speak, the dog would be a blundering outspoken fellow; but the cat would have the rare grace of never saying a word too much."

Quote from: absolutelybaching on December 04, 2022, 05:18:57 AMI can't really tell, but to me it looks like Teddy Roosevelt. But since Twain is on record as having called Teddy the worst president America had ever had (clearly, he was around before 2016!), I don't imagine he actually socialised with him to that extent!!
Lovely quote here: ""Mr. Roosevelt is the most formidable disaster that has befallen the country since the Civil War – but the vast mass of the nation loves him, is frantically fond of him, even idolizes him. This is the simple truth. It sounds like a libel upon the intelligence of the human race, but it isn't; there isn't any way to libel the intelligence of the human race."
Plus ça change, indeed.
So I have no idea, basically.
I tried doing a google image search. It found the photo, but when I clicked on the site link, no further info there. He does look to be well off (clothing-wise, hat and highly polished shoes). Perhaps a fellow writer? At least another cat lover in any event! ;D

I like the sound of this ballet:
In 1927 Diaghilev's company produced the ballet La Chatte (The Cat) with music by Sauguet, which premiered in Monte Carlo on April 30. The story is about a young man who falls in love with a cat, which assumes a human form through the intervention of Aphrodite. As they make love, the cat-woman sees a mouse and cannot resist chasing it, whereupon she changes back into a cat. The work was choreographed by the young George Balanchine.[3]

I'll have to check into that more. I believe that I read that there's actual footage of that ballet?

Interesting thing I noticed: Amazon shows two different authors' names there: Lloyd Baron and Anatoli Schulz. I went to the .com website for Anatoli Schulz and there's a different title for the novella there: If cats could talk...would they cry?
In any event, I read the first page from it and found it to be interesting. Alas, my library doesn't have it.

Cool! I used to have various plans with my vet's too. Can be a good way to save some money. Still a hassle though--and depending upon how much your cat likes going into the carrier/travel/noises and other animals at the vet's might try giving the home pedicure another go?

A beautiful cat in every sense. So sorry for your loss. It sounds like she was well loved in her nine years.
Quote from: Bachtoven on September 06, 2023, 03:30:20 PMThank you so much. Oh, we cherished every second we spent together.
I didn't post about it at the time, but I had to go through the same thing a few months back with my cat of 15 years.
As unpleasant as that final trip to the vet was what was worse was seeing how quickly and far her health had deteriorated by the morning that had been booked in a week earlier. So there was no illusion that more could have been done. It was time.
Sorry to hear.
I'm sorry you had to go through that. After going through with that with two pet dogs when I was a child it took me a long time to adopt a dog again. After Hershey passes (probably sometime in the next few years) I probably won't do it again.
My condolences, she was obviously quite the cat.
While the sense of loss will be felt deeply, you can hopefully find a little relief knowing that she'll never really leave you.
So sorry to hear this news. What a lovely looking cat. Looks like she was lucky to find you and that you gave her a happy life.
@Bachtoven and
@SimonNZ I'm so very sorry for your losses. And, yes, that final trip to the vet's office is a hard one. That first time was particularly rough I remember. No one told me that after the first injection that they would suddenly be 99% "gone". I had hoped that we could *cuddle for a while longer together and that she would just be sleepy and no longer in pain but that she would still "be there".
*The vet did give us time alone together after the first shot. It was just very different from what I thought that it would be like.
Try and enjoy the happy memories of your time(s) together. They were both lucky to have had such kind owners--families really.
All the best,
PD
Quote from: Bachtoven on September 07, 2023, 07:34:23 AMThank you, PD. The first shot took about 5-7 minutes just to put her to sleep, and like your vet, ours gave us tine alone with her. (It must be bad enough having to end the life of someone's loved one, but standing watching them sob for several minutes would be unbearable.) They carefully wrapped her up the soft blanket that they placed her on during the first shot to take her to a different room for the final injection. I turned around as we left to room and saw her precious little face peaking out from it, an image that will forever haunt me.
You have my compassion John, you know that!

So, how did you pick the name Lucy for her? :)
PD
Quote from: Bachtoven on September 17, 2023, 05:25:15 PMSince we adopted two females, we wanted two famous female names--my wife thought of Lucy and Ethel from the "I Love Lucy" show.
Until about 2 days ago, Ethel has been grieving in her own way. She constantly walked around the house for over a week looking for Lucy, sometimes making an odd huffing/coughing sound, then she'd vomit. We took her to the vet a few days ago and everything seemed to be fine. The vet said it was most likely extreme stress since litter mates bond so closely. As if my own grief weren't bad enough (and hasn't diminished one iota yet), it was doubly heartbreaking to watch her. She quit doing both disturbing activities by Thursday night.
Yes, it must have been confusing and upsetting to her to no longer see her sibling around and not being able to comprehend they why. I'm glad to hear that she is doing better.
Perhaps at some point in time, you might consider getting another kitty? Might be a good thing for both of you?
Best wishes,
PD
Quote from: Bachtoven on September 18, 2023, 06:53:07 AMThank you. We've talked about it, but I don't think Ethel would tolerate a new kitty. A neighbor found a litter of kittens a few years ago, so we "borrowed" one to see how our cats would react: not well! Both hissed like crazy and raised a paw to swat it, but they didn't follow through.
Sorry to hear that. For what it's worth though (to be fair), it can take a while for animals to get to know one another and to adjust to a new "resident". And remember, cats are very territorial. Most of the articles and shows that I've read/seen talk about slowly getting them used to each other (one show--*Jackson Galaxy) from what I recall had the owners put up a baby gate between two cats (one of whom was picking on the other) and also using "tricks" like distracting them by getting them involved in play together (like using a wand with a toy on the end and getting them focused on chasing after and attempting to catch "the prey"). You might want to talk to your vet (or someone at their office) either via phone/email/or next time that you need to bring Ethel in.
*He also has a bunch of videos on youtube in which he talks about different subjects/issues/problems with cats and ways to try and resolve them.
In any event, please give Ethel some chin and behind the ear scratches from me. :)

I suspect that it was more of a case of a young cat wanting to play with an older dog who just wanted to take a nap. ;) Or maybe a case of new housemates learning the boundaries? No expert here. Good on the dog for not showing a lot of hostility towards the annoying cat though...very patient, well-trained and kind nature. :) Thoughts of siblings (one being much younger) also crossed my brain.

There's a product in the US called Kwik Stop Styptic Powder which (alas!) I've had to use in the past. Basically, it stops the bleeding when you accidentally cut the quick. Important to have nearby (just in case) when you're trimming their claws.
Edit: I should add that it also (from what I understand) helps to stop the pain (been quite a while since I've used it).

As I mentioned in the Missing Members thread, we recently had to Euthanize our other beloved kitty, Ethel, less than three months after Lucy. In between, we adopted a 9-week-old tabby as a companion for Ethel before she got sick. She didn't like him at first (much hissing and growling), but she eventually accepted him and even treated him as her baby--grooming him, cuddling with him etc., which makes her death even more heartbreaking. I know that the circumstances were horrible, but for the best interests of Fazi and the two of you, it might be best for him to have a playmate/companion...also for yourselves as young cats have a lot of energy and also might take some of that out on you (not in terms of them trying to be mean, but they have a lot of natural hunting/pouncing energy that they're trying to sort out)...just going by some of my own personal experiences.

We've gone back and forth...now we're leaning toward adopting him a companion. We'll see. I'm filling out an application to adopt...it might be easier to adopt a child! :)

He's about a week younger than Fazi, and his temperament seems very similar, so he should make a good match.

When our Elsie leaves us - she will turn 9 soon so hopefully we have many more years - we plan to get two youngsters instead of one. Everyone's circumstances are different, of course, but we both go to work, I work from home about 50%, and Elsie just gets too lonely by herself. She's a very clingy people-centric cat.
I'm sorry you went through those two losses so close together and so cruelly. But Fazi (and maybe a companion) will bring you a new kind of joy. The question of course is, what other kind of piano makes a good cat name? Bechstein, Broadwood, Maene, Bosendorfer, Bluthner and Steinway are not very attractive names at all... maybe Yama? Or Graf? Or Nulty?

Thank you. I hope you have many joyful years left with Elsie. It's been so hard, but Fazi does bring us great joy. If we had only one cat and lost her, then we would have gotten two, but we were afraid that two kittens would have overwhelmed Ethel. Lucy and Ethel overwhelmed our previous cat, who happened to be 9 years old, and we didn't want to repeat that situation. (Long story--maybe some other time.) Both of us are retired, so we can spend plenty of quality time with Fazi.
Haha, well, maybe Bosey?

After further deliberation and talking to the foster parent, we decided against the other kitten. 1) Fazi seems perfectly happy by himself...constantly plays with toys, I play with him, he purrs all the time, and he loves being with us. We have a great thing going and don't want to take a chance on upsetting the nice balance. 2) The foster parent said he is being treated for two infections--one is an upper respiratory and the other is in his eyes. We're not wild about bringing a sick kitten home.

Thanks, guys. As cute as that other kitten is (his foster name is Roasty) and his two siblings, I doubt they
will have a problem getting adopted. I just found out their sad story: they were found by the side of the road at about 2 hours old alongside the body of their dead mother who had been hit by a car. They were immediately taken into foster care and bottle fed.

We haven't
completely closed the door on a companion. Part of my concern, and it's probably unfounded, is that Fazi might lose some interest in cuddling with us and would prefer to play with his new buddy. Since he seems so bonded, it might not be a problem. I guess the solution is to find another super cuddly kitten!

I know that it's hard to figure out what to do about kittens/cats and adding a new one in. Note: it can take a bit of time and slow and moderated introductions are the best. I think that it's great that you are keeping the door open re another kitten. Please don't be afraid of "sharing" your kitten. Two great quotes that I ran across: From Anne Morrow Lindburgh: "Only love can be divided endlessly and still not diminish."
This is one that hit me many years ago, it's by C.S. Lewis (and I still reflect on the wisdom in it and how/try to make it part of my life). It's from a book called "The Four Loves" [which talks about the four Greek words for love and what they mean: eros, philia, storge and agape--though, upon googling, it seems that there are a few more]:
"To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable."
With love,

PD, thank you for your thoughtful post. After your comments and the urging of two sets of friends who foster kittens, we went to the local shelter this morning and adopted a 9 week 2.2 lb. tuxedo kitten! We named him Zeus. So far, he and Fazi are OK together. Fazi hissed a little, then started patting Zeus as if to get him to play. Fazi started getting a little rough, so we ended the session after about 5 minutes. Overall, it was much better than with Ethel, even though Zeus seems a little afraid of him at the moment--Fazi is a fair amount larger and still a little aggressive. I'm sure they'll be fine shortly.
Here are some not so great pictures--I'll try to get some better ones later. I need one that shows his cute white tummy!

Oh, yeah!
I suspect that it was a big day for all involved? ;) Remember that Zeus is trying to get used to just about a new everything: environment/home/even where his litterbox is plus getting to know the two of you and another kitten (whose scent is probably all around the house) and is probably dying to roughhouse with the new kitten. How much older is Fazi by the way?
One suggestion: after Zeus has settled in further, you might initially try distracting the two of them with some toys--like some sort of wand toy, so that they are chasing the mouse/birdfeathers/whatever vs. whopping on each other (which I'm sure will happen eventually). Added bonus: it will wear them out for at least a little while and you'll have a ball playing with them. ;D
My British Short Hair (which I purchased when she was a kitten--about 4 months old) loved this toy; https://www.dabird.com/catcatcher One day, I sat on the living room carpet and swung it around me dragging it over the carpet. I would switch it between my hands and change the direction. She had a ball racing around me and would swiftly change direction when I did!

Yes it was! The shelter was full of adorable kittens, but we knew we wanted a tuxedo so he would look entirely different from our previous tabbies. Zeus seemed so sweet and started purring and cuddling the second I picked him up. He's at least as cuddly as Fazi but far less hyper, yet he loves to play with toys. I'll look into that toy--looks great.. They had a second unintended meeting last night--no hissing but Fazi immediately started wresting with Fazi! I think they'll get along fine once boundaries are established. Fazi is 6 weeks older. At first we wanted one closer to his age, but most of the kittens were younger. The shelter didn't think it would be a problem.
By the way, it's incredibly challenging to type while a kitten is walking across the keyboard!

I remember when I adopted my last cat (at that time, he was a male kitten). I went into the shelter thinking that I didn't want a really vocal cat. He was so quiet and mellow; I realized later on that this was due to him having been neutered the day before. Once we got home and he was less "dopey" and feeling better, well that changed! lol

Haha, well Zeus hasn't been neutered yet--the shelter's vet is way behind, but they'll call us when they can take him, probably in a month or so. Since Fazi is a boy, we are not too concerned! ;) Zeus isn't particularly vocal--mostly he cries when we put him back in his room. Actually, Fazi, who is neutered, isn't very vocal either. Although this morning during another encounter with Zeus he made a cute, quiet "grr" sound, which seemed to indicate he was frustrated that Zeus was more interested in checking our the living room than playing. Fazi was quite a bit less aggressive this morning and afternoon, much to Zeus' relief no doubt! They are both wonderfully sweet and loving, so I hope they bond soon.

Thank you. Well, Zeus sometimes squeals, so I assume Fazi is too rough at that point. Overall, Fazi is a little less relentless. Eventually, the novelty of a playmate should subside. Zeus had a checkup two days ago and I mentioned the roughness to the vet. She said kittens rarely hurt each other or draw blood. Well, that's a relief! I still intervene when I hear Zeus cry out. I haven't seen Zeus groom Fazi, but Fazi never groomed Ethel, so maybe Zeus will when he's a little older.

Interesting approach! I'd be a bit worried about their paws getting caught in one of the traps?
I did see (on I think the same video that I had shared) of some owners putting some sort of a play tunnel around the base of the tree. Their cat(s) seemed to enjoy playing in them and stopped chomping on/climbing, etc. the tree.

As a side note: when my cats passed away, my vet gave me paw prints of them (baked into some sort of resin) along with their names. I bought some narrow satin ribbon which I fashioned into a loop (a couple of inches long). I used some Gorilla Glue and glued them in two places on the back of each one (twice to keep them from flopping over). I put them on my Christmas tree each year. Note: I initially tried using a hot glue gun, but noticed when I put one of them on a hook in a sunny foyer, that the glue started melting!

Dad just gave me a little FAQ ;D
1. They are upside down so the trap is directly facing the floor. If you set it off, the trap closes onto the floor and the smooth wooden back flies upward. He's never known anyone to get injured that way.
2. This only works with older vintage mousetraps because the newer ones are too "good" - if you set them and then place them upside down, they go off the moment they touch the floor ;D
3. And yes...it is not easy to set them all upside down ;D

Those wooden ones can quite finicky to set. I jump when they go off. :-[ Pet peeve: you've managed to set it up with a little bit of peanut butter, and you come back a few days later--the peanut butter is gone, but so is the mouse!

What the f$&k people??? I slammed on my brakes and stopped all the traffic and put my hazards on and got out and pealed her off the road. People were honking and all pissy....really??? It's a kitten glued to the road!! So after a goo gone bath and some food and cream we have a new kitten. Luckiest kitten in the world!"

Some people... well, if I ever saw someone abusing an animal in that fashion I'm not sure what I would do, but it would probably land me in jail. >:(

"An eye for an eye" comes to mind.

Exactly my first reaction.
Superglue their feet to a railwayline sleeper and let them practice their "limbo".
I can't believe that someone would do that! Thank God that that man happened to see the kitten and risked his life to save it. And then was kind enough to adopt it. ❤️
And I hope that his/her paws are o.k.

In the second one the car is cleaning them as though it thinks of them as kittens.
Seems more like the equivalent of when cats and dogs live happily in the same house and even cuddle up together.

Perhaps, but there are certainly more cats which will instinctively kill and eat chicks than there are cats which would try to kill and eat a dog.
No doubt there's a logical explanation which explains the images - perhaps the chickens and cat grew up together in close proximity - , but I'm guessing there aren't very many similar images out there.
@LKB I've seen a variety of things. Like
@SimonNZ mentioned, I think (and I'm not claiming to be an expert here) that there is often a lot of bonding when animals are introduced as babies/young to other animals and grow up together..and also when one is an adult and one a baby. I also saw one story (and am trying to remember where I saw this other part) about the hormonal changes that female cats (and other animals) go through within a certain time window in which they are open to looking after other young. I remember reading about an eagle that raised a hawk chick (Canada). And a cat that looked after ducklings after having her own kittens in Ireland...I'll find that one. Ah, here we go! https://www.irishcentral.com/culture/craic/cat-treats-lucky-baby-ducklings-like-theyre-her-own-video
I think that there are also a lot of adult animals that are kind and sensitive and patient and compassionate to other animals (whether of their own kind or others) and make bonds with them.

The ears go back, it's growling and then opens up its mouth...why in the heck did this person try to pet it?! And also trying to rub its nose to chin?!
No idea what boogie woogie means here. Do you understand?

They're growing up and so quickly! :)
I found that this product worked quite well. It's basically compressed air in a can with a battery-powered sensor (which you can adjust) on the top. It's called Ssst Cat. I purchased mine years ago. It's either gone up a lot in price and/or Amazon's price is really high. I purchased mine from a local pet supply/garden shop. Warning: there were a few times when I forgot that I had it on the counter and ended up surprising myself!

Thanks. That is a bit pricey. I'm glad it worked for you, as it seems to get a lot of negative reviews.
Poor little Zeus is at the vet getting neutered. Not a very fun way to spend his 4 month birthday!
Zeus has been home for about two hours, and you'd never know he just had surgery! After being separated from Fazi last night (no food or water after 10:00 pm) and at the vet for 9 hours, he's wildly exploring his surroundings.

Well, think of it this way: you're doing him a favor--and yourselves too--(think of all of the health benefits including no-spraying, less aggression and fights, etc., not to mention having unwanted kittens. Are they strictly indoor kitties? I've gotten the impression that that is the case.). I know that in terms of female cats, from what I understand, it can help substantially lower the risks of mammary cancer (particularly if you do it early as in before they go into their first heat). And as you may or may not know, spaying female cats is a WHOLE lot more invasive.
Rest assured, you did the right thing...hard as it might have been for you. :)

Thanks. Yes, both are strictly indoor kitties. He acted like nothing was wrong when we brought him home. When I took him in, I was going to ask the receptionist if they could circumcise him while they were at it, but she didn't strike me as having a sense of humor!
I've had female kittens/cats--they didn't seem to realize they had surgery, either!

My poor cat, a gentle and refined lady of later middle years, is having her life made miserable by a newcomer on the block, young, aggressive and sickeningly self-confident. A few weeks ago there was a big fight, violent enough to knock over and break a large (and expensive >:( ) plant-pot; last night another one, leaving fur (my baby's) everywhere. She lives in the garage (not as cruel as it sounds, since it's the warmest place in the house, nicely carpeted) but since the first fight has refused to go outside. I put a litter-tray down for her, and yesterday as an experiment took it away - she then very neatly found a bit of cardboard to poo and pee on (so has her tray back now). I think the new cat is also coming into the garage and helping itself to her food. Revenge fantasies have included rat-poison in the food (although there may be a flaw in that plan somewhere) or placing a tray containing strong acid or alkali immediately inside the catflap for the bad guy to land in the next time it tries trespassing. What I shall probably do is sit in the garage after dark tonight, wait for the thing to appear (which then it probably won't) and attempt to grab it and give it a good dunking in an icy water-butt, which may get the message home. Any other cat-lovers suffering similar bullying?

I wouldn't make direct contact with the cat. You don't know his vaccination status, and he's bound to fight if you grab him, probably by wrapping himself around your arm or wrist and biting while raking with the hind legs. He might leave you with the worst kind of souvenir.
So... cold water, but in a spray bottle with a " stream " selection. One or two hits, he'll hopefully want no further part of your garage. And if you should happen to accidentally zap him in the face, he shouldn't take any real harm and you won't have injured someone's possible pet.

Oh, she's a pampered pet, so no doubt vaxed up-to-date (owners/new neighbours have already become good friends), although thanks for your warning. Not much chance I will get anywhere near the thing to grab it, so am just going to lock the catflap at night for the moment - my little one is too scared to go outside anyway, and with her litter and food & drink inside, she's sorted.
Kony goes to the Orange Zone after pondering the cuteness question.
Last night I was in bed, about to click off the light, when I noticed our cat creeping towards me on the carpet, a knife clutched between her teeth pirate-style. When I spontaneously asked her what the f*ck she was doing, she dropped the knife and scurried away. Granted, it was one of those tiny plastic knifes you get at a diner; but I've developed a newfound suspicion towards our cat.

 lol I honestly don't think that your cat was trying to do you in! ;) Probably, more likely, she had found something and was going to present you with it as a "cat offering"....or in perhaps in her mind, she had found a new toy?
