With the numerous German speaking composers, how come so very little of them come from Switzerland?  Or Lichenstein or Luxembourg for that matter  ???

Because Lichtenstein has the population of your average village... Switzerland has produced very good composers: Honegger, Martin, Huber. Not bad for a population of a few million rather than several dozen million...

Why are the American moderators both from Texas? Is this a conspiracy?

knight66

There are three American mods, but only one is in Texas. I think the fact there are three of them and that Rob has moved to be right next door to them is however deeply sinister.

What's the word for fear of sheep?

knight66

Well, it is not 'Welsh'. That is the word for a lover of sheep.

Ovinaphobia - I recall running into this one a while ago (such is the sadness of my online life $:)).

Oh...I assumed Karl knew and we were going to get a sort of knock-knock joke from him.

A little bird (or, it might have been a small furry mammal) told me you would know, Sara  ;)

No, Mike, I didn't know . . . sort of had the raw materials for a guess, which is better for recognition than speculative wordsmithing.

Is there some sort of political scorecard online comparing Obama to McBushCain?

mn dave

I try to listen to Modern music, but Baroque, Classical and Romantic keep dragging me back in.  ;D

I am deeply impressed by Arthur Nikisch. Shame that he recorded so little...

Does this belong to the non sequitur thread? Is this the non sequitur thread? I hope it is.

Yes, it is.

Nikisch? If it's the same guy I'm thinking of, I bet the sound on those recordings is pretty horrible.

You bet wrong. $:)

I wouldn't have guessed 1913 if I didn't know the date: I'd place it in the 1920's! (;))

Oh, sure. That was a swell decade for audiophile recordings.  :P
