Quote from: Florestan on February 01, 2023, 12:52:06 AMEven if they do, that's not a good reason to leave the forum. Most members here stick to music threads and are perfectly fine with it. There must be something else at play.

I'm aware that this is going to be a speculation on my part and perhaps won't add anything particularly relevant to the discussion, but I suspect that person has multiple accounts and has created ones with the usernames Klavierman and/or Bachtoven. I do read the posts of many here and I've detected similarities in their posts from long ago (he has been on the another forum too). It's also curious to notice that Kontrapunctus deleted his/her account and then Bachtoven created one.
Part of the tragedy of the Palestinians is that they have essentially no international support for a good reason: they've no wealth, they've no power, so they've no rights.

It is tempting to engage this these sorts of speculations, but I don't find them convincing. It would be easy to detect this sort of thing if site administrator could compare the IP numbers used.

I vaguely remember that kontrapuntus was a username previously used by Bulldog's brother.

He stated his reasons for why he should delete his account in a recent message he sent to me and I must say they were rather strong. Still, he said "should" not "would" and I didn't expect him to really take action. I, for one, will miss him.

Fair enough, still a shame indeed.

Yes, unfortunate. A lot of knowledge was lost to the forum with his departure.

Agreed, he was a very valuable member; I'm very sorry he took the decision to delete his account, he must have had his reasons to do so.

This site was important to him, based on the fact that he one of the most prolific posters (more than 60,000 posts over the years). I feel bad that he felt he had to leave it.

It's a shame. He was kind and generous with me over the many years he was here.

Yes, me too.

I appreciate that every site has strong personalities and passionately held opinions. Resultant conflicts or spats are inevitable in cyberspace because human nature is what it is. Having said that, I presently rarely post or visit GMG - although I don't have any interpersonal issues whatsoever, I don't enjoy the way in which members are sometimes treated or the tone of those conversations.

Despite his undoubted culpability in this area, I also miss MI. I think the particular episode that precipitated his leaving was instrumental in my own stepping back, along with an observed series of particularly acerbic exchanges around the same time. I may feel differently about my involvement in the site over time, but I suspect others were equally saddened. No drama, hence no flouncing out with fanfares or recriminations. I doubt my absence was even really noted, all of which is fine. There is undoubtedly a great deal of good here.

All very well and even-handedly put.

You can put the doubts away; just last week I saw your name in a "composer" thread and thought "aha! and where is foxandpeng?" and checked your profile to make sure you were still logging in. The maturity and fairness of this post make it evident why I would be seeking out your contributions.

I think I completely missed whatever this now-notorious incident was, or what it was about. In my recent experiences (past 3-6 months), there seem to be some disagreements in the "what are you listening to" thread and the audiophile thread is certainly a danger zone, but the Composers board in particular remains an extraordinary resource for learning more about music.

That's where I spend most of my time perusing. I like even posting what I am listening to in the composer specific thread, rather than the "What are you listening to....".

Great Recordings section and What are you eating are other areas I check out, along with the Missing Members thread.

Excuse me, but I don't think you completely missed it. Didn't you say some nasty things about Mirror Image in this very thread?

I don't want to rake the whole thing over again. He's decided to completely leave. He was already pretty much out the door. It's sad. But please, let's not discuss it JUST to say "I don't know".

And count me as a person who has thoroughly enjoyed foxandpeng's contributions.
I am now working on a discography of the works of Vagn Holmboe. Please visit and also contribute!

I said some candid things about him, but long after his permanent departure, from the first time everyone wondered why he had left.
