Chet Baker Quartet No Problem (1980, SteepleChase)

Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, bass
Norman Fearrington, drums
Duke Jordan, piano
Chet Baker, trumpet

I wasn't aware that Baker had an official quartet. Always had the impression that he put together cats who happened to be available and willing. His mystique as some kind of romantic wanderer never really left him. Wonder how long this particular iteration stayed together. Nice album.

Clifford Brown and Max Roach at Basin Street (1956, EmArcy)

Brownie and Max get the billing but the entire septet is stellar:

George Morrow, bass
Max Roach, drums
Richie Powell, piano
Sonny Rollins, tenor sax
Clifford Brown, trumpet

Cool. That album (judging by the track list) is one in a 10 disc set that I just picked up (and highly recommend).

Move is one of my favorites. Thanks.

Avalon from Django Reinhardt: The Classic Recordings in Chronological Order (2000, JSP Records)

None of the YouTube uploads (that I've heard) do justice to these remastered 30s recordings of Django Reinhardt and company. Been listening to disc 1 of the excellent value 10 CD set (you can get it for literal pennies online) and the quality is much better than you may suspect. The above example is the best rep I could find of this smoking version of Avalon. But get the set. No brainer buy.

New release. Quite heavy. Comparable to Mahavishnu Orchestra, if you like them, you will probably like this recording. With James Brandon Lewis on sax.
