I favor anyone who quotes John Lennon. A Maestro of my generation (who wrote a pretty mean poem, too!).

Question No.37b  ::)
What's happened to the PM function please?
It's probably in front of my nose but I can't see it.
PS Good Morning everyone! (well, it's morning over here)

Morning Jeffrey,

On desktop, Click on "My Messages" in the top left between your username and the "Alerts". A pop-up window then comes up with Inbox and Sent Items.

On mobile phone, you have a small yellowy envelope icon in place of "My Messages".

Morning Olivier,
The problem is that there is no 'My Messages' on my screen or 'vandermolen' although I'm shown as being online. It's like I haven't logged-in!

Quote from: absolutelybaching on November 27, 2022, 12:50:09 AMFingers crossed any of this works!

Here is a little video of me typing into the Google Notes program on my phone. No spurious "Quote" additions:

https://absolutelybaching.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Screenrecorder-2022-11-27-09-25-56-865.mp4

And here is me typing a reply on this forum: one fullstop is all it takes to make the word "Quote" auto-appear:

https://absolutelybaching.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Screenrecorder-2022-11-27-09-26-55-555.mp4

Would be useful to know if someone with (a) Android 11 mobile; and (b) Firefox for Android experiences the same. Pick a post by someone, click the Quote button, and start typing a reply and see if anything happens after first fullstop is typed.

Hi AB,
I have an Android 11 phone and installed Firefox just now to check. I don't get any "Quote" popping up after a full stop after quoting a post. Nothing either in my phone usual browser, Google Chrome.

I don't use Android, so I can't test. Its quite bizarre behaviour. I have asked the brains trust at the SMF Community forum.

Dungeon Master

@absolutelybaching What version of Firefox were you using on your phone? Did you have any add-ons installed on Firefox?

Dungeon Master

Quote from: absolutelybaching on November 27, 2022, 01:35:37 AMVersion is 107.1.0 (Build #2015915067), and I don't have any extensions. I do have https-only mode=on; enhanced tracking protection=on; language is English UK; cookies and so on are deleted on browser close: the usual paranoia stuff!

I'm stumped. There are a few text-replace add-ons for Firefox, and I suspected one of those might have been the culprit. Anyways, I have posted the question on the SMF Community forums, to see if they can elucidate.

Quote from: absolutelybaching on November 27, 2022, 01:15:12 AMThank you for going to that trouble!
I took a leaf from your book and installed a different browser.
Whaddyaknow?! No 'Quote' appears (in DuckDuckGo Browser).
It appears to be a Firefox thing unique to my phone. I shall switch browsers, basically, and I guess no further detective work is required :)

Thanks again.

I think it must be some weird combination of that app and your phone's predictive text. It sees the word quote at the start and end of the text you are quoting in the HTML marks, and somehow from the latter of those concludes that the thing to do when ending a block of text is to say "quote".

I use Firefox on my computer, but not on my iPhone, I use Safari on that.

That's strange!  :( And you scrolled all the way up to the very top of the screen?

For what its worth, I use Safari.

Hi PD,
I was just looking in the wrong place!  ::)
All sorted now - thanks.

Quick query from my side please:

How do I remove the email icon (small grey envelope) under my avatar in my posts ? I can't find anything to that effect in profile settings, layout, etc... Is it currently visible to logged-in members or is it just the PM button (and only I can see the email envelope?). Thank you.
