A composer I know nothing about - the last time I enjoyed to a Bruckner symphony was in 1984. I just can't hear anything significant in the music. He may just not be my sort of composer, a blind spot, but it is time to explore that a bit more maybe. Recommendations appreciated.

The dissemination and acceptance of avant-garde painting in the US in the 30s and 40s is a topic I find rather interesting, and this book on the subject by Hugh Eakin has received very good reviews (even if the title may be misleading).

Indeed, I was expecting a book about Picasso and the Spanish Civil War.

There's a new 4K director's cut of Tarsem's The Fall (a masterpiece, in my opinion, which hasn't aged a day) and it is to be shown "on the biggest screen in the UK" (the BFI IMAX) on 28 September. I'd definitely go if I were in London! Not sure if there are plans for wider theatrical distribution, but I'd certainly welcome an eventual physical release in 4K UHD.

Really don't like country music, nor bluegrass. But when your favourite living artist does a bluegrass album, you gotta listen. He certainly puts his stamp on it, just as he does with R&B and soul and everything else he touches.

Plus, an artist who cut his first sides in 1953 and his latest in 2024 deserves a shout-out.

Sometimes, a bit of a compilation hits the spot.

No doubt I won't listen to all 2+ hours tonight, but you never know. . .

And if you did, who could blame you?

Listening to Don Pasquale with my morning coffee.
